Ashes 2015

Listened to Boofa on the radio last night.

I'm not sure who will get the nod out of Rogers and Marsh and

Watson and my boy Mitch. I'd be going for Buck and Mitch.

Boofa was asked about Lyon's performance in the last game and

he said he thought Lyon bowled "pretty well"laugh.png

I guess he couldn't come out and bag him though.

The deck looks like it will have some juice in it. Maybe a good toss to lose

for the captains.

I'd like to see Mitch picked. I know Watson can contain the batsmen with his accuracy, and I reckon that's the only thing in his favor with selectors.

Opening spot is a tough one too. Both players in form.

Watch for the 'family trump card' being played

Neither Marsh made the cut

42 4 2 of 13, openers out , not the greatest of starts

rijit

You';re right. Could have been better... if only Haddin had held that catch to have England 4 down

<deleted>, you've got to take catches like that.

Time will tell if/how costly that will be.

Root looks to be taking advantage of it. That would have had England well on the ropes

England 88 for 3 at lunch; Root (33*) and Ballance (28*) steadying the ship.

Could be a costly drop by Haddin when Root was 0!

Weather not good; a rain delayed start and it was raining again just before lunch, although they didn't come off.

Forecast for this afternoon is dry, though.

The damp start and early England wickets ensured a slow morning for the boozemobiles parked under the stands. While the Foster's stand is at least doing steady business, the lads working on the Pimm's concession have the haunted look of temporary staff fearing the sack. And don't even ask about the champagne bar.

Day one, honors to the English team.

Haddin's dropped catch of Root on 0 has proved very costly.

Still, game on, and England sitting pretty

I don't agree about honours being with England BookMan.

After winning the toss and batting, I reckon a score of around 400 is par.

No juice whatsover in the deck, small ground and quick outfield.

I thought the boys bowled quite poorly yesterday. Too much legside and then

to wide of offstump.

Some late wickets have evened things up. We will need to get the last 3 wickets

ASAP and keep them below 400 I reckon.

Disappointing pitch with no life for the quicks at all. It might be quite hard chasing

on days 4 and 5.

I guess after Australia bat, we can really assess things but overall, I think it's pretty even

at this stage.

I expected England to struggle to 250 after losing a few early wickets

I agree there was some poor bowling by the Aussies. I was impressed with Lyon's clever bowling for his wicket that got Cook. A ball that did absolutely nothing, bamboozling Cook with its ordinaryness. Smart stuff.

Australia scored 650ish in 2009 batting second at this ground

Yes, what might've been.

Lyon was bowling "nude balls", there was nothing on them.

I couldn't believe the commentators were saying he was our best bowler.

I reckon he would've bowled 80% of his deliveries to Ballance who was

showing no intent at all.

650.....woah, I didn't realise that.

The game is delicately poised I reckon.

Ballance was doing his job; dropping anchor and making life difficult for the bowlers allowing Root to express himself at the other end.

A well earned 61, especially after the poor form he's suffered recently.

Root must love Haddin. He dropped him at Lords last time round when Root had scored bugger all and then went on to score 180!

Bell failing again must put his place in jeopardy. You've been a great player for England, Ian; but time to go before you are pushed.

Starc the pick of the bowlers, with Hazelwood in his first Ashes test running him a close second.

Johnson not the threat everyone thought he would be; and a certain refrain was ring around the ground in the afternoon. To be fair, the pitch doesn't suit him and he may fair better on the harder, bouncier pitches to come.

Do you think it is likely we will see any pitches like that, which would suit Mitchell?

The answer is NO. The pitches will favour the English bowlers.

End of day 2 & surprisingly england have there noses in front,,, just. so glad its not one sided

rijit

It was looking like Australia were going to dominate at the crease at one point,so I was happy this morning after nodding off to discover we took another 4 wickets.

Poised nicely for the next three days play, let's hope the weather doesn't dictate the result I'm lead to believe it's mostly looking dry.

Aussies 5/264 at stumps trailing by 166.

England on top. Voges dismissal with a few overs to go was critical.

We really need Watson to earn his money now. hopefully haddin can

get a few as well. Our tail is pretty good really, Starc, hazelwood and MJ

can all be pretty handy with the bat.

A critical stage of the match. If we can get close to England's total, we still

have a game on our hands. If we end up 50+ behind, it will be a stuggle.

Did anyone (apart from Cook) not have a giggle at him getting hit in the ballsbiggrin.png

I think it was Michael Vaughn who said on TMS "He needs to go off and put them in a cup of ice!"

Cook apparently has a high pain threshold; for him to collapse like that it must have really hurt.

Good day for England, and especially for Moeen. A dashing 77 with the bat, then two crucial wickets.

When was the last time Australia put in a night watchman?

Second over this morning, Watson out lbw to Broad.

Umpire Erasmus gave him out, Watson reviewed, umpire's call; out.

Can Haddin redeem himself with a big score?
