steelepulse Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I tried booking a ticket on airasia HKT-KL-HKT as I normally do. Now for some reason the 2 hours between flights isn't deemed long enough and they block this booking , only allowing an option to wait four more hours at the airport for the return. Question is, has anyone recently flown in/out of KL on Airasia and are the running close to on time? 3 months ago was the first time I experienced a long delay with Airasia.
CNXBKKMAN Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Booking a flight like this with only two hours between is always going to be a gamble. Looks like Air Asia dont want to be part of the gamble probably due to problems previously when flights have been delayed and having angry passengers at the ticket desk causing trouble.
KhunBENQ Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 At your own risk you could book two oneway flights. The return flight has to be paid in Malaysian Ringitt, which should not be a problem with a credit card.
Argus Tuft Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I fly this route regularly. Have rarely had a delay HKT-KUL Had a couple KUL-HKT but no problem as I was ending my trip in Phuket. No delays recently (last 1-2 years), usually bang on time or even a few minutes early. Probably good to allow a buffer if you're booking a connecting flight through KUL though - at least the new KLIA2 terminal is better to spend some time than the old LCCT
Iamemjay Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I've never had a problem. More often than not, as with all AA fights in my experience, they arrive before the scheduled time. This is understandable of course when their "flight time" is deliberately inflated by 15 minutes. However the changeover time in KLIA2 is greater than most airports mostly because of the humongous size of the place.

Airlines generally give scheduled flight times from as being from 'gate to gate' or doors time - starting from when the brakes go off before push back following the main door closing, to when they are applied on arrival at the destination gate.
KhunBENQ Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) From the timetables DMK to KUL there is no obvisous inflation of flight times. Times vary from 2:05 to 2:15 (one flight only). But must admit: there are only AirAsia, Thai AirAsia and only one "Malindo Air" (2:05). Multiples flight from BKK, all in the 2:05 to 2:15 range. And BKK is some miles closer Edited June 23, 2015 by KhunBENQ
steelepulse Posted June 23, 2015 Author Posted June 23, 2015 Didn't feel like going through the hassle of booking two one-ways, so took the later return flight. Last time I flew to KL the departure out of Phuket was 3 hours late, so they moved a number of us to the afternoon return flight. Maybe after this episode they decided to block the 2 hour turn around time.
