Electric Meter

Featured Replies

I will be needing enough power for 2 12,000 btu aircons, 3 ceiling fans, refrigerator and normal lighting.

What meter would I need from PEA?

If that really is all your load (no water heater) then a 5/15 would manage.

In reality go for a 15/45, it's the most common for Farang homes, small, medium or large :)

This is a small Thai house 1 BR. LR and kitchen are outside. Stove and water heater will be gas. Forgot to mention the 2nd air con will be in a well insulated out building. Got to keep my motorcycle from corroding. BR will also be insulated. 3 X 4 mtrs.

I want to be able to run a 5.000 watt generator in times of power outage.

When you say 'manage', does that mean 'just barely'?

It would be OK, but no headroom for expansion.

Your 5kVA genset would max out at 22A, rather more than a 5/15 :)

There is no advantage to a 5/15 unless you are very low usage.

My gen now will carry the entire house with a 20000 and a 3 12,000 btu aircons, 2 refrigerators and lots of lights. Most are Tube or LED. Lighting is not much of a draw though.

In fact, I just turned everything on and checked with a clamp on amp meter. 25 amps. Never able tell if everything is running or not. Got other things to do.

Since my smallest water heater is 6000 watts, cold showers are required.

Maybe a good idea to add a solar heater to your hot water system, cheap and easy to make, I imagine they aren't too expensive here either, Will easily get your water to 50C with the amount of solar radiation that is available nearly all year.
