Thanks UJ.

If anybody has had any problems or suggests getting there extremely early for the 06.45 flight, pls let me know. Exit without re-entry P. would mean loss of retirement extn after 8 years and back to 30-day Tourist.

Why not obtain a re-entry permit over the next few days from your local immigration office instead if you have the time?

The Immig office is near to DM, and I am far from both. In addition, the wait for the permit can be 1-2 hours on a bad day. I wd certainly follow yr suggestion were I nearer, but I have been here a few years and I know that, if it is open, the office at either airport takes only 10 minutes max.

However, your reply is useful because I had forgotten whether I still need the TM form and a photo at the airport. I seem to remember that they take your photo now AND do your paperwork. IS THAT CORRECT? (Don Muang)

No, that is only the case at Swampy. THere they charge an additional 200 baht for the service, by the way.

At Don Munag you have to do all yourself and bring your own pic. You do pay the regular price of 1,000 baht for a single.

I can confirm that the DM office is open day and night (not sure whether it shuts in the small hours if no flights due out).

There were 3 staff in there at 05.45.

Seems better if you have done your form and photo and your copies. As an old hand, I had everything ready and so I was flavour of the month. However, some people seemed to have screwed up and were being "helped." Not sure if that is photo, however. I rather think not.

What's a re-enty permit please? It sounds like something which may become relevant to me as I ween myself off tourist visas.

Thanks.

A re entry permit is a way of keeping current permission to stay active if you wish to leave and re enter the kingdom, naturally it's only as good as the validity of your current permission to stay stamp, available in single or multi re entry permits.

So if you just came here on a tourist visa and wish to leave after two weeks for say one week to a neighbouring country you would obtain a single re entry permit to re enter the kingdom and not forfeit the remainder of that time left on your initial entry, you still lose the time you leave the country obviously.

A re-entry permit can be issued for any permit to stay to keep it valid when you enter the country after a trip out.

For example if you wanted to make a short trip out during the 60 day entry your tourist visa allows you would be stamped back in with the permitted to stay date you had when you left. It does not give any additional days.

Thanks, will be useful when I change to the 1yr extension route.

Can you get them at local immigration offices (Kap Choeng for me) or only at airports?

You can get them at an Immigration office. You can get one as soon as you have your extension stamp. You can get a single or multiple re-entry permit.
