I am just curious..

This doesnt really apply to me as although my wife and I were married by ceremony we never did the paper side of the marriage (we couldnt, she was married to a farang who was MIA and would never return to Thailand.. We couldnt find him and she couldnt divorce without his permission.. Great system)..

Anyway she died.. So I am just wondering what happens to guys in sorta that situation in Thailand ??

They marry, they set up home, they do all the paperwork and get a marriage visa and show the correct amount of money in banks.. They are here on legal marriage paperwork and have a new life in Thailand for a few years. She dies. His 'status' changes from married to widowed.

Does Thailand then say.. Ok thanks for everything.. Bye bye ??

Seems kind of harsh to not only lose your loved one but to then lose your whole life ??

Also what about divorcees ?? Are you tied to your wife forever however much of a bitch she may have become simply to maintain your life location ??

Just thinking along these lines as there is not real world route to PR etc unlike the western systems where once in then you are pretty stable.

Marriage is not the only option for legal stay in Thailand and indeed it only provides an extension of stay if you are supporting the spouse. Work/retirement/education would all be options with or without a wife.
