BANGKOK, 1 July 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has set the tourist target for this year at 28.8 million people and the revenue target at 202 trillion baht after the situation in Thailand was back to normal.

Deputy Government Spokesman Maj.Gen. Sansern Kaeokamnerd said Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Watthanawarangkun had informed the government that tourists’ demand to travel Thailand was still very high and the ASEAN market saw growth. The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s continuous promotion of the Thai tourism also contributed to its projected growth in tourist numbers in 2015, said the deputy government spokesman.

Maj.Gen. Sansern added that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha had instructed the ministry to set up sport associations in the regional level. The associations’ main task was to select athletes for national teams, the deputy spokesman said.

The situation is back to normal ? Well ok if you say so.

No doubt these targets will be met if not bettered and even if they aren't, which of course they will be, no admission will be made.

The Minister of Tourism will never lose her job because she's said the wrong or unacceptable thing, everything about tourism is so happy and just gets better.

Poor Chinese plus a gaggle of middle eastern types and a smattering of Indians. I'm sure the Russians will keep coming. Basically people who can't afford or can't get a visa to a real tourist destination will continue to come. High quality tourists.

202 trillion baht

Naughy TAT, fudging them numbers are we? 202 trillion baht is 34% greater than the GDP of Japan at 147 trillion baht. Current GDP of Thailand, 13 Trillion baht.

And yes I know, an obvious translation error as there is no specific word in Thai for trillion or even billion.

Maybe they plan to devalue the Baht with a factor 100?

Economy getting worse, legal system unable to cope with people traffickers, road deaths continue to rise, students unable to hold peaceful protests, insurgency continues in South, government don't have a clue, yes everything is "normal"!

Does each tourism association plus the Ministry schedule a weekly press conference, each on a different day? That's the only reason I can think of for so many unnecessary announcements.

202 trillion. Decimal points are important

With 28.8 million visitors, this suggests average spending of just over 7 million baht each. Congratulations TAT, you are clearly going to be meeting your objective of attracting "quality" tourists when you achieve this result..

Great News! Maybe time to invest in a small guesthouse or bar.

Agree or maybe just "blow" it all in Pattaya - after all Thailand would be my last choice to invest anything ... Never know who is gonna skrew you until the day is over ...thumbsup.gif

"...after the situation in Thailand was back to normal..."

Really? Who said things were back to normal and who is going to tell the tourist they should come. Children playing with their pie-in-the-sky estimates.
