our farm pays all our living costs,

i still go to work from time to time, the money i earn goes into my bank here in thailand that just stays there, if we ever needed a major item like the guest rooms we have just had built then the money would come out of there,

when i was away last time i came home to over 150,000bht in my desk draw, money from the pigs, i said why didnt you put it into the farm bank acount, wife said i wanted to wait for you so we can do together like allways,

the farm bank acount is there for both of us,

we dont spend much at all, we still have a good life and do the things we want to do but we both enjoy being together and working the farm, not that i do much you must understand as i dont have a work permit, as some of the jelouse on here will point out,

so if you look on youtube you will just see my wife working on the farm,

my ex wife in the uk i will add, had a free hand on the money and it cost me a fortune as to this day i think i kept her family also, just the same as some on here think all falang must do here,

im the same as others on here, my wife and i are a partnership im not the boss we talk about things if we want to spend a good sum, it was my idea for the guest rooms,i said to her it will let other falang if they want to come and see that you can make a happy life here in thailand, i know having a farm,(pigs also) isnt everyones cup of tea but they could come here and just see what can be done with a little hard work and a lot of effort from both of us,

we only have 2 rai but it works for us,

so to stop me rambling on,

if i want something i talk it over with my wife and the same goes for my wife,

my wife has her own money everyday from her ducks, that is her everyday money, when it comes to bills that just comes out the farm acount,

Very good post but tell me one thing do you still have something from your home country in your name if you ever need to go back home ? .

Like most male TV members, my gf is a HiSo Thai lady of Chinese descent, 30 years my junior. She earns all the money and gives me a large monthly allowance. In return, I have sex with her and her sister.

Didn't you forget to add that both your gf and her sister are nymphomaniacs....licklips.gif tongue.png

I just give my wife my pin number and card I don't want to be a walking ATM I want to be a sitting down one.

We both earn money....so no worries.

Yes, Mrs Possum has her money and I have mine. I knew that is the way I wanted it before I moved to Thailand to stay.

I buy and cook my own food as does she, if I am cooking or cleaning up in the kitchen, and she is there, she has to do it for me.

If I as much as pick up the potato peeler, or start cooking, she always takes over.

Be careful, some people might believe that.

The fact that both of you earn the money is a good reason to share, but trust is more important and how much of the total income she makes must also be a consideration.

I had assets when I met my wife, but she did not. She had one year of commercial college training and was just hired as a novice bookkeeper for the company for which I worked in Manila. When we started dating, I was hesitant to trust her and reveal my assets. However, she was always ambitious, hard working, and eager to learn. I sent her back to school, where she excelled--good grades, honor societies, scholarships, and subsequent good jobs.

My wife now has equal access to all we own. We have been married over 36 years. I trust her implicitly, she has proven that trust time and time again. She has been employed at jobs which earned a good salary and benefits and she assists me in my consulting work. She started proving herself before we were married and continues to do so every day. She is an equal partner in our relationship and should we ever separate, I would have no qualms about her receiving half of what we have.

A woman must be able to do more than just spread her legs. If that is the total asset your gf/wife brings to the relationship, you're in trouble. If trust has not been earned; withhold access to your assets, control the money she is given and watch where and how she spends it.

I find that my wife (along with many other Thai people) are not great managers of money. This has nothing to do with trust, I trust her completely....she was just never taught these things from a young age.

Ha ha ha....give the wife total control of my money? Are you nuts? And yet many farang husbands do exactly this. Dumb move, unless you like being given an allowance each month, and like begging the wife for money. Find and watch Canadian-produced video documentary "Thai Bride". Watch and learn, and then don't be like the idiot in the film. You can have a great life and wife in Thailand, but keep hands on your money. Or at least equally with your wife.

Not all relationships are that one-sided. Too many farang-local relationships have the farang in love and the local in quest of all the money she can get. Some wives actually love their husbands and do not abuse the husband's trust in them. However, that requires some form of love between the two of you.

Then teach her.

We have separate accounts for our salaries but she has full access to all our business funds and manages them just fine. She has her own and supplemental credit cards both here and overseas. All our overseas travel is paid for by our company. Good thing too because it's easily another 150-250k a month in airfare and hotels.

As long as her requirements don't exceed 200k or so she is fully within her right to spend or use those funds.

We just try to control each others unnecessary spend. It's a two way street.

If she manages the business funds well and you have separate accounts for your salaries, do you try to control her spending from her salary?

I take control of the purse strings.

Since it is all my money anyhow (savings, I am retired) I prefer it that way.

She gets an allowance and it was the early days of that situation that taught me she was a risk!

I must admit she has improved over the years, but I am reticent to change the situation.

Sounds more like hired help than a relationship.

No! I give my wife daily allowances, and it's not about trust. She just can't handle unlimited fonds, too goodhearted to say no to beggers of all kind. But she admits it as a fact, so no problem, we are together since 30 years, and anything else than money we have absolutely equal rights.

Very good post but tell me one thing do you still have something from your home country in your name if you ever need to go back home ? .

short answer is yes,

and 2 bank acounts,

we have been seriously thinking of moving to the uk for the kids schooling,

see dosnt matter were i live as my work takes me all over the world,

i could get a job in scotland that would see me out till retirement,

but would i have the freedom and the life i have here,?

my mum is 75 and has a small 7acre smallholding, she rang me last year and said it was going to be mine, ive told her to give it to the red cross, she has allways done a lot with the red cross,

i could say ok ill have the farm, and i could have pigs the same as we have here, but the restrictions in the uk are just stupid and i wouldnt enjoy it,

there is more to living in thailand, in my case i enjoy the freedom to farm the way you want to farm and not the way the goverment wants you to farm, i dont do anything wrong and are pigs are very good pigs,

but i dont have to ask permition to sell a pig, dont have to ask permition to go and buy a pig, move a pig, slaughter a pig,

i, we could move tomorow, we could sell this place very easily, contacts incuded,

and if i think, i think what you are getting at, if my wife and i were to split up for any reason i would be fine,

and i would be working away from about 2 millionbht, which for the 9 years of happiness ive had with my wife i would say was very cheap,

anything else?

We agreed on a monthly amount that is required for our family and I take care of the account. Money is transferred accordingly

My wife is free to do whatever she like with the money she earns, none of my business.

She dont give me money, I dont give her money.

She has her bank acounts, I have mine, we have a joint account for household bills.

If your girl if telling you one of those Thai stories about men giving their money to the wife, it may be time to look elsewhere.

Snap.

You got er made in the shade. Good wife good game plan real success story. Unfortunately we do not all strike gold here immediately. It took me a while to get the lay of the land so to speak. I always feel sorry for the beginners that come here with stars in their eyes. This is not Hollywood. I try to coach as many as I can from what I have experienced. I make friends easy but do not want a lot of friends at my age to time consuming.

Wife and I have been married 33 years now and I totally trust her with our money. Or rather, we totally trust one another.

In the first few years of marriage she had to learn about money and lots of other commercial matters, but over the years has become quite competent and careful with managing costs and money. In fact I am usually the one prompting her to spend a bit on herself. We do talk about everything we spend money on and we have no secrets, even on the small stuff.

We have separate superannuation funds but all our spending money is in a joint account which she looks after, paying all the bills, getting out cash when needed, even giving me a some if I ask. (I can never remember my PINs). She also pays our credit cards bills - she has her own credit cards - does transfers to investment accounts when appropriate, to our Thai bank accounts when needed, and transfers of our various donations.

She records in a note book everything we spend, which helps us keep track of expenditure and enables us to check this against bank and credit card statements. I do cast an eye on this note book as well as the bank statements from time to time just to keep up to date and check the banks are not making mistakes or ripping us off.

I expect factors contributing to this situation include her being well educated, me being an accountant, my brother is an accountant, several of her family are accountants, and all members of both our families are in different ways successful in jobs & business and are careful with money, so she has always been an environment of discussing and managing money. (I guess in this environment you either become careful and competent with money or you slit your wrists !)
