BMA launches Bangkok: Capital of Thai Education campaign

BANGKOK, 3 July 2015 (NNT) – In a new bid to upgrade the country’s education, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has unveiled a new campaign called Bangkok: Capital of Thai Education.

The campaign kicked off at Centara Grand Hotel. The opening ceremony was chaired by BMA Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra. Its objectives are to expand education opportunities to all children in the capital city, improve the capital’s education system to be on par with Southeast Asian countries' and promote public participation in the reform.

Under the campaign, more libraries and youth learning centers will be built in different areas of Bangkok, and 5,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots will be installed across the city. To foster children’s physical and intellectual development, the BMA also provides free meals to over 300,000 students.

The BMA’s quality assessment board has recently rated 391 schools out of 438 schools under the BMA’s supervision as quality ones. In addition to education promotion, the BMA has planned to instill integrity among school children.

Given that education is so bad and students have no concern or incentive to learn it amazes me that some group would want to be called the capitol relating to this. What also amazes me is that the same thai people passed all of their tests and classes under the 'nobody fails' rule feels they arr now qualified to rate and rank other schools. Another point is their idea of installing 5000 wifi hotspots for students. When most students are not permitted their phones in class and when studies have shown students utilize their time in social media and youtube instead of research for lessons. So basically they will offer this wifi 'not for learning' but for socializing.

So 391 schools out of 438 are rated as ' quality ' which must mean the education is of the highest standard and benefits the students.

Anyone in doubt should check the pass rate, see how high it is !

They do not need more access to libraries or hot spots or youth learning centers but need better guidance to effective outcomes. ASEAN is real. Bi lingual Thailand in ASEAN is not.

Dear BMA,

According to the MICT in 2012, they would be spending 30Billion baht building 20,000 wifi hotspots...and up to 250,000 by 2015...which in case your VCR is still flashing 00:00, is this year, making your 5,000 hotspots look pretty ridiculous....

What? You're saying it never happened? But what about the money that was allocated?

And physical libraries? Really? Are you still in 1985?

Perhaps online libraries to take advantage of the 250,000 5,000 wifi hotspots would be more useful, cost effective and future proof.

Free meals for 300,000 kids? Really? And that helps education how exactly?

Carry on.
