Visa on arrival as Suvarnabhumi for Brit?

Featured Replies

Just a thought,

Anyone know if it is possible for a British National to use the Visa on arrival at Suvarnabhumi to get a 60 day tourist visa. Would take the hassle out of dealing with consulates in Cambodia/Laos when arriving back to Thailand by air.

I know the VOA is intended for 30 day visas for nationals of 19 specified countries, but just wondering if they have the authority/motivation to do other visas.

Andy

Andy. Visa On Arrival and the Tourist Visa Exempt Scheme are two separate things. As a Brit you qualify for the TVES so you don't need a visa or VOA. You will be given 30 days when you enter. You can extend that stay for another 30 days once in Thailand at an immigration office for 1,900 baht.

I think the visa on arrival office is for people arriving from countries that don't have a thai consulate. UK has many consulates issuing visa's so you probably won't be allowed to use it. Anything is possible in Thailand though.

You cannot get a visa on arrival of any length. As you wrote it is only for those from certain countries and it is only for 15 days,

You get a 30 day visa exempt entry that can be extended for 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

Thanks for the reply. I'm aware of the difference between VOA, Visa Exemption and a Visa, what I'm wondering is if I could use the VOA desk staff to get a regular 60 day tourist visa that I can then extend by 30 days to get 3 months in total. It's unlikely I guess otherwise lots of people would be doing it, but this is Thailand...

I only have room in my passport for one more run so Id like to try to get 90 days out of it rather than 60.

Siem Reap is really convenient for me (3 hour comfortable trip) but currently the travel agents there can't offer a Thai Visa service because the consulate in PP isn't dealing with them. So I would need to travel to PP in person, a 5-12 hours drive by 'road' depending on rain and state of repairs, with no guarantee the consulate would be in a visa issuing mood.

So I was just thinking if it was somehow possible to get the tourist visa (60 day) at Suvarnabhumi. Its an easy 1hr trip by plane from SR to BKK and then comfy sleeper train back to the Jungle.

No!

You had best plan on doing a border hop for a 30 day entry and apply for a new passport. Then apply for the 30 day extension using your old passport it the new one is not back in time.

When the passport is full I'm heading back to the UK to get a new one, have my annual visit to family and friends and sort out some admin associated with being a nomad! That's why I'd like to get the maximum stay from the remaining space.

It looks like I'll have to make do with a 30 + 30.

Thanks for the comments.
