Anybody have a link or info? I'll be exporting a ford ranger to Europe, need A/C out and some heating fitted. Has anyone ever come across this or know where it can be done. I've been told need to get the on board computer sorted also,

Thanks

Would the A/C not function as a heater if you make it warm enough? I've run my honda A/C at 30 degrees C and it blows out hot air. Just a thought...

If the the ranger is not produced / sold in Europe, wouldn't getting parts be a pain?

There was a story on here a few years ago about a chap who exported his Fortuner to Ireland and had great fun with glass condensation dripping inside for most of the miserable year. I think there was a discussion on an after-market heater installation but I would imagine with the way that cars are plumbed and wired these days, it will be a lot harder than changing the heater on my old Vauxhall Velox with its rubber hoses, clamps and self-tapping screws.

But isn't there a whole slew of environmental protection and emissions gadgetry required for the UK market that is NOT included in locally-sold models? There's some stuff that isn't installed here which partly explains why they are mostly cheaper here than in the UK.

What you might be feeling is the hot air from outside and the A/C compressor not being turned on much or at all. Or, your A/C unit is out of freon. If there were 5 C air outside, you'd feel the cold air. And air cons are not heat pumps.

Adding a heater core is the difficult part as the whole heater / AC evaporator unit typically has to come out to get the heater core installed, assuming the plenum unit has the mounting for the heater core. You might find 2 plugs where the heater core lines come through the firewall and the control valve wouldn't be too hard to install, if the wiring is part of the harness. Then you'd need the water connections on the engine and some heater hose. You also might need the control levers to make it work. Finding the parts in Thailand might be a real hunt.

Taking the dashboard apart to get to the heater core area is not a fun job.

If you can set it to 30c, that means you have climate control AC - and Thai cars fitted with climate control do indeed have heaters. It's only lower spec cars with manually operated AC that generally don't have heaters.

Being a 2012 model all parts will be available from Ford Thailand, Saying that the only Ranger sold locally with a heater is the wildtrak and as it is climate control it may very well have feedback back into the canbus which will present issues geting it all to work.

Aside from the obvious heater/ac assembly, hoses, vacuum lines, dash dials etc etc you will also need to change the compete dash wiring harness as Ford in all their wisdom fitted the Rangers with different wiring looms dependent on final vehicle spec.

Get onto marksmotors and ask them, they export Thai built pickups and Iam sure they would have experienced this issue, maybe they can assist having your Ranger upgraded.

Failing that you might be better to scour the UK wrecking yards to find a smashed Ranger and grab all the bits from it and do the conversion in Europe.
