Commerce Min ensures adequate supply of drinking water in drought-hit provinces

BANGKOK, 15 July 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Commerce is carrying out inspections on major supermarkets to ensure adequate supply of drinking water for drought-hit communities across the country.

The ministry has been informed by beverage companies that their supplies have not been affected by the ongoing drought and that there will be sufficient amount of drinking water to meet the growing needs in many provinces.

Supermarket operators have also confirmed that drinking water has not been sold out in drought-plagues provinces as rumored. More drinking water has been ordered for markets in Pathum Thani but supplies are being prepared for local supermarket branches as well.

The ministry has also warned supermarket operators to refrain from raising prices of bottled water during the dry season. Those responsible for water price hikes or other suspicious activities will face a fine of up to 140,000 baht or a jail term of no more than 7 years.
