Pathumthani Waterworks assures low salinity level in tap water

PATHUMTHANI, 17 July 2015 (NNT)-Pathumtahni Waterworks Branch Office has said it is only using water from the Chao Phraya River when the tides are low in order to prevent salt water from entering the production of tap water.

According to Pathumtahni Waterworks Branch Office Manager, Kwanchai Kijkobchai, his office has been monitoring the salinity levels in the river given that ocean tides are usually high during this time of year.

The Royal Irrigation Department has also been releasing water into streams in an attempt to keep the salt water at bay. Mr. Kwanchai, however, admitted that the salinity level of the tap water has not been stable but assured the public that there is enough fresh water in storage to dilute the saltiness.

CDC’s Borwornsak: Charter drafters to meet 21 July to vote on drafting deadline extension

BANGKOK, 17 July 2015 (NNT) - The Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Council has scheduled a date for all charter drafters to cast their votes on the extension of the deadline for the drafting process.

CDC Chairman Borwornsak Uwanno said on Thursday that the charter drafters will continue making all suggested adjustments to the draft of the new Constitution, which was originally set to be completed within 60 days, or July 23.

However, as it remains uncertain if the process will be wrapped up in time, the CDD will convene a session on July 21 for all members to deliberate and cast their votes on the suggested extension of the deadline by 30 days, Mr. Borwornsak said.

He insisted that such a decision would be based on all reasons which would be heard on that day.

Concerning one of the orders issued by the National Council for Peace and Order, which cancelled the selection of members of the Law Reform Commission of Thailand, Mr. Borwornsak said that the CDC has not discussed or initiated the issue while stating that a defamation lawsuit will be filed against anyone who has been or is spreading such a false report on social media.

Princess Sirindhorn advises release of more water from Rama 9 to ease plight of people in Pathumthani

17-7-2558-10-44-17-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has expressed concern over the ongoing drought situation and has advised that more water be released from Rama 9 reservoir at Klong Luang to relieve the trouble of farmers in Pathumthani and for tap water production.

According to the disclosure of the director of the Pathumthani Royal Irrigation Project Mr Chuchart Supawattanangkul, Her Royal Highness has allowed the Royal Irrigation Department to start releasing three million cubic metres of water from the Rama 9 reservoir.

He said now around one million cubic metres of water was released and now the water was flowing into Klong 5 and Klong 6 canals where over 20,000 rais of farmlands would be the most benefited.

He said Her Royal Highness has also allowed the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) to use the water from the Rama 9 reservoir for the production of tap water at its water plant in Thanyaburi district of Pathumthani province, as the district is presently lacking water for consumption.

If the situation becomes even more dire, Her Royal Highness has allowed to further release more water from the reservoir to help alleviate the people’s hardships, despite the fact that the receding water in the reservoir could damage the roads around the reservoir, he said.

He said the princess has said subsided roads could be repaired later while the trouble of the people has to be eased first.

“After hearing the princess’s words, I was so overwhelmed with gratitude for her concern of her people,” he said.
