If this story is genuine (and I have my doubts), the first thing the OP needs to do is pay off the debt ASAP. Do it today, if possible. Every day is just costing him more money. Pay it off now.

Then he needs to realize that his wife cannot be trusted ever again. And what kind of life can you have when you can't trust the one person you are supposed to trust the most?. It will be painful in the short term, but getting a divorce is the best long term move he could make at this point.

I don't know how many "Likes" i've hit, so not much more to add. Already been said.

OP, get your head out of your AR$$ and accept you really did not pick a good one. Quite a few statements in your story says so if you read between the lines.

Train wreck that was in slow motion, just been put on FF.

Yes, the best thing any foreigner can do is marry the

first skirt they see, could be the last one. When i think

of marriage a story comes to mind,, myself, previous

property developer, still own a lot of property, shares,

invested money but know one knows what where or

how much, my story, i was with a real young beauty

for a number of years, she started saying we have to

get married yadda yadda yadda, this conversation

went on for weeks yadda yadda yadda she then lets

out ''and when we are married, half your assets will

belong to me'' yes darling yadda yadda yadda cold

shivers up and down my spine, uncontrolled eye twitch

cold sweats smiling all the time.

Do you remember the guy who went to meet his new girlfriend at KFC only to

be confronted by all her family out for a free feed,,, he says to her oh i just need

to go to the toilet, and does a runner,,,,

so, i went to the toilet as well, precious.

It doesn't matter if the OP is a troll or not.

I note comments along the line of "your wife cannot be trusted with money."

She wasn't trusted with money.

She took on a note without the OP's knowledge.

It can happen to anyone -

As you mentioned it took you 13 years to find the right woman and you were very happy with her until the problem. No doubt she has made a very stupid mistake by taking the money and loosing it in casino. But this is how human beings are. We all make mistakes. If you really love her you can sit down with her and explain everything to her once more and tell her this time you will bail her out and pay the debt but if ever this happen even with small amount of money you will divorce her and disappear.

Well you are talking about 6000 US$ and if she is not worth so much of money then you did not really loved her.

I see no further posts here from the OP yet, despite questions asked.

Even though you did not want to hear it, this girl is exceptionally stupid.

Can't be left unsupervised for a few days.

Along with the ex neighbours....

The loan sharks aren't doing anything wrong.

Whilst I agree with this post is general, I strongly disagree with the above statement. Loan Sharks are the lowest form of life on the planet who prey on the vulnerable and break the law.

That said, a mute point I think as the o/p s post being so implausible and failure to comeback stinks of a troll to me anyway.

This story does seem to have troll characteristics but it is awfully long to be a troll. But why not, a troll must have little else to do except finger tap on a keyboard. There are definitely many holes in the strange story. As others have noted, 200k is an awfully big loan to extend as a first-time-loan without security. Loan sharks may be bottom feeders but they are not stupid or quite that careless.

agree, it's either a troll or there's a lot missing in the story ... how to sort out the BS from the real ... whistling.gif

Ok.....

so you are choosy with women and have bèen learning for 13 years.

But your wife does something of this magnitude without you knowing

She is close to her family and you have never met the dad.

Your farang husband number 2

You are blaming the loan sharks

She wants to buy a lotto ticket becauze her dad is dying

Sounds like the same story as a first timer in thailand

I think you should pay the 200k baht and show them how much of a man you are. Maybe she could borrow some more and double up

Before I left my wife asked me for a thousand baht so she could play lottery and prayed that she would win a million baht to help her dying father. I have explained to her often that playing the lottery is as good as throwing money away. "would you ever bet on the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 or 5 5 5 5 5 5 5?"(or how ever many digits it is). I would ask her. She would reply' Of course not! How could anyone win on such an unlikely number!" I would respond, " Absolutely correct!

Thats just makes me lost for words on many levels for the BOTH of you

Lottery is a very low odds investment. Every investment is a gamble

Why would the odds of 1234567 be less then others. If the prize is split then thats a different story

If a dying father would be good luck. Every person would be rich when their father passed away

I cringe for the both of you

The story sounds very fishy. Loan sharks will not loan without collateral- that is how they make their money. They charge high interest rates and when payment isn't made they seize the land.

Call her bluff. Say that you have very powerful friends who you spoke to and they will make the problem go away. Just need to know the name of the loan shark.

Then watch the story suddenly change.

She waited 13 years to take you for a idiot and only 200K ? I think you got off easy...

Thai woman are very easily influenced and dragged into something like this ( the Farang hubby is away n few days and Bob's your uncle) by other Thais just sitting and waiting for opportunity.....so I'm not saying your wife is a bad person. Just Thai mentality, and that's a fact.

It is no problem for the neighbor to lie with her for whAt the money REALLY went for....and this all very conveniently when you turn your ass and leave the country.....act of cowardice...Thai way.

Wake up and smell the coffee brother... The possibility you're being conned and lied to is 95%

It is What it Is.

I'm sorry to say that I would be questioning the story that was presented to you, deep questioning, difficult questions that need detailed answers. Such as; what is the casinos name and where is it. What day and time did she go there and for how long, how did she get there. How did she contact the loan sharks (and check the telephone if it was used). I'm sure you get the drift. This is the land of untruths ( as well as other things). You need to establish that the story as presented to you is the full and total truth before you can move to making a decision for the future.

Regrettably, I suspect that the story will not withstand scrutiny.

Well, After another 13 years.....maybe you will be better suited to make an even better choice.

<deleted>##ing thais are so stupid when it comes to money. Very stupid in this case hope its not the once in a lifetime money grab from you. Super scam the farang... Sounds like one of those dragged out long scams that people wait for the perfect oppertunity to strike the big one. Youve got to wonder in a third world country, is there such a thing as love or is it just a tool for leverage.

In either case she has messed up either a money grab or just being untruthful and unable to be upfront asking you for the cash. You wont be the worst farang in her life if you do a runner, the first one left her with a kid.

I am absolutely certain no-one can borrow Baht 200,000.- from anywhere, Loan Shark or whatever, without substantial collateral.

So what did she provide as surety?

Patrick

the surety is the daughter

Your wife is correct, getting out of there is the best thing to do.... but seeing as though you are willing to throw her away so easily just divorce her and be done with it.

By the way any debt incurred during wedlock is half yours.

correct 100,000 baht is your debt

so the lenders will be after you

dont be a farang about this and stand on your morals and principles as they will get their money one way or another

move to another district as each day the loan jackpots so its not 200K any more

Yep, I'd say BP is definitely smokin some strong stuff, a real Thai patriot.

Pay her debts off [OP], show her you'll back her all the way, cause you made a good choice in a wife. I mean how could you be wrong after 13 years of weeding through the duds.

Perhaps a man in total denial.

A fool and his money.. arrrrh its been said too many times..

Oh and OP, stop banging on your chest.

I'd say you better darn well care if they come knockin... 'cause the day they come knocking, it aint going to end well for you!!

Just to put the people with limited knowledge straight who are calling scam regarding 'collateral'

Here is how it works, local card game, go along with 'friends', eventually pulled into the game for a few baht, wins a little say 1000 baht, enjoys the kudos of being lucky and walking away with money, encouraged by the win and 'friends' returns again to make money, as lucky, whoa there wins 10k baht wow. Next visit all fired up takes 5k baht loses and this time it goes wrong, 40k loaned off the person who is 'winning' but ok not to worry player is good for money. Next time goes back 5k baht again desperate to win, loses again, winners happy to loan money plays all day 'borrows' 100k all from the card school 'winners'.....well perhaps you get the picture now?

No collateral, the monies are provided by the 'House' team, and actual cash recovered through the 'game', no risk, no collateral just a bunch of cunning people working a well worn route into the wallet of a 'rich' husband - wife walks out without a penny card team holding a note for xxxxxxxxk

Perhaps I stand alone having a little sympathy for the Thai lady and her husband, but in my opinion she will have learnt a very harsh lesson people who lure you into card games are not friends!!

Pay the monies release her from the pain of worry and consequence she knows now she has been badly burned

The wife is the 'mark' here the husband the ultimate target

How many guys actually understand that providing a big house for a wife is a magnet for these types of financial 'assaults'

Having a farang husband places many burdens of expectation on a wife, also attracts 'hits' like this, be aware, and act to protect as best you can, because it ain't an easy road for your wife!!
