Ranong - Burma visa run for visa exemption

Featured Replies

Hello. Does anyone have any updated information on the Ranong visa run for getting a visa exemption stamp? I read that they had tightened up on it.

I have had 2 visa exemptions already but am flying out of Bangkok on 1st August. Need to be out of Thailand by the 20th July. Had originally planned to go to the Perhentian Islands but due to recent trouble in Sungai Kolok don't feel good about doing it.

Any advice would be appreciated!

You could get a 30 day extension of your current 15 day entry at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

If you already have 2 back to back visa exempt entries I think you will have a problem at Ranong.

Thanks for the advice! They weren't actually back to back - one was in April and the second was at the end of June. I'm not sure if that makes any difference though?

I had planned to apply for an extension at Koh Samui immigration but then booked the train to Sungai Kolok (stupidly before reading advice against travel through this part of Thailand/ news of bombs last week). Are you able to extend your visa on the day of your visa expiry or is that too late? Sorry for all the questions!

You can do the extension on the last day without a problem.
