Bangkok malls hit their stride

What's not to like about Bangkok's malls? Cheap-ish foodcourts, western food, movie theatres, banks that are always open, great imported food in the supermarkets, super cool aircon, sexy hi-so girls and most importantly, great toilets.

Sexton hi-speed girls? Wannabes?

120 malls!!! Must be a very special Thai trait to copy a business that looks like its profitable (and at the end nobody makes money because of the oversupply) .

Ranks with putting prices up when your business is failing. It doesn't attract more custom or keep the ones you've got.

There is NOTHING available in a Bangkok mall that can't be had 25-50% cheaper in other places or online. This is all hype ...

Yes but the others places won't show the price and try to cheat you.

Malls are far overpriced though but the more malls we get the more competition will come hopefully.

Traffic jam is soo bad that we rarely go to another mall, it takes hours to go there and in the skytrain you won't carry too many bags.

Sometimes it takes us 40 minutes to drive from the parkinglot in a mall to the exit at the mainroad. Unbelievable.

Bangkok needs more malls with good parkinglots. Why do they always let us drive around loads of corners before we can park? They should learn from the developed country's (or IKEA) how to develop good parkinglots.

Malls do good business because Bangkok is such a big mess along the roads.

Competition? In your dreams. Most of the malls are owned by Central or The Mall Group, and they all contain the same chain stores selling the same overpriced "Made in China" junk. The exceptions are Big-C (Casino group, French) and Lotus Tesco (Tesco, British), but many of those are not shopping malls in the traditional meaning of the word.

I have been around Bangkok quite A bit.I have never seen 120 shopping Malls. They also must be including these small strip Malls.Or small shopping centers.I wouldn't call them A shopping Mall.

My way of thinking of A shopping Mall is what there is at Siam square etc.

Why is there a picture of a woman in a bathrobe to go with this story?

It's a DESIGNER bath robe, didn't you know??? biggrin.png

It's either a very cheap bathrobe or a very expensive dress. Depends on the label, I guess.

"Thai society is status conscious and we are still a developing country. Everyone wants to dress well and look good," says Supaluck, who first brought in Chanel and Hermes to Thailand.

I'll bet Supaluck's PR agent spat his coffee out when he saw the photo of Supaluck that his assistant had mistakenly sent to copy.cheesy.gif
