PHUKET: The driver who abandoned his red Volvo V70 after crashing it into lamppost in Srisoonthon on Wednesday (July 22) has surrendered himself to police.

Chamnan Intham, 48, arrived at Thalang police station at 10:30am yesterday (July 24), said Lt Suporn Muangkhai.

“He said he panicked after the accident, so he and his friend fled the scene,” he said.

Both men suffered only minor injuries in the crash, he added.

Chamnan saved police a search, as they already had his identification card, which was left behind in the wreck. (See story here.)

“Mr Chamnan was charged with reckless driving and damaged to public property,” Lt Suporn said. “He also provided proof that his insurance will pay for all damage to the light pole.”

Lt Suporn did not reveal what Mr Chamnan said caused the accident.

drunken like usual

Yes, and as in many cases here, thank Buddha only hit a pole, and didn't kill an innocent road user.

Wealthy enough to have a Volvo, but not wealthy enough to hire the pathetic excuse for public transport on Phuket.

Given no real affordable public transport options here, most chose to drive under the influence.

It's the danger we ALL face on the roads here.

“He said he panicked after the accident, so he and his friend fled the scene,” he said.

cause he was drunk as a skunk ... crazy.gif

Too bad they were not killed - now they are gonna kill someone else and get 500B fine - only a matter of time ...bah.gif

"Panicked" and fled the scene.

Makes a change from the common excuse of the driver "Was Confused".

Being an almost life long biker and you bikers amongst us will agree it had to be a volvo.

They should have a law here like the one back in the US. Leaving the scene of an accident is a really big deal. It would stop a lot of this silliness. Maybe...LOL

Most Thai drivers are "confused"

Just look at what side of the road they drive on whistling.gif

Couple of observations from the pic;

- Looking at likely speed of impact (full chat) the Volvo has stood up well

- So has the battery

- Would not like to get a dig off the guy who originally owned the watch hanging off the wrist of that rescue worker lol...

Volvo for life

Little thai modify , and up you go for the next crash.

How do bikes and bikers come into this single vehicle incident?

Driver surrenders after fleeing so he does not get arrested for being high on drugs and alcohol . Smart Thai move and lesser fine or jail term!
