Dual Citizen Question - pls HELP!

Featured Replies

Hello people,

I recently got Thai ID card and now I need to make Thai passport in order to leave the country and come back in with it. I entered Thailand with foreign passport since that's all I had. So my question is what will happen if I leave the country with my foreign passport (either way I must leave with it) and come back in with completely new blank Thai passport? Thanks in advance.

If you leave and return by air, no problem.

By land border it is always problem switching passport, albeit not sure when you have a Thai passport.

I would recommend to take a cheap flight to Penang or KL and back.

Thank you replying. But won't the immigration ask why my Thai passport has no stamp? and also what do I do with my air ticket name? Since my Thai name is totally different from my foreign passport....

Many countries do not stamp passports, that is why switching passport by air is the best option.

I have never had a stamp from any western European country in my passport.

My wife who is Thai and naturarilized U.S citizen entered Thailand with American

passport and got the 30 day tourist stamp. She then went and got a Thai passport.

After 30 days we went to Singapore for a couple days and she left Thailand on the

American passport to clear out the tourist stamp. She re-entered Thailand using

her new Thai passport and was questioned about why there was no exit stamp.

She told the truth and revealed her American passport. The immigration agent

went to see her supervisor and came back with some sort of notation in her

passport and everything was okayed. I forgot what the notation said because

it was about 8 years ago. Since then she has gone in and out of Thailand with

Thai Passport.

I'm aware that some countries do not stamp passport or don't even have immigration when leaving the country. However, my concern is that I will be leaving Thailand with my foreign passport which will have exit stamp but I won't have exit stamp on my new Thai passport....

Would you be able to find out what the notation was? And as you mentioned that's 8 years ago so will they be more strict regarding this now? Also I'm wondering if I can show two passports when leaving Thailand asking for exit stamp on my new Thai passport as well....

They can ask why you do not have a departure stamp in your passport but their is no legal reason for them to deny you entry for not having one. You just have to stand your ground.

Be sure not to show them your other passport or they will try to stamp you in on it.

It’s a very short and tiny hand written note in Thai which I can only make the last word

เก่า “old”. That jogs my memory. They wrote in some BS that the exit stamp was on her

old Thai passport. (Her old passport had expired about 35 years ago.)

Another option would be to get a passport from the Thai Embassy in whatever foreign

country you have residence in, then you'll have a good explanation.

At first, my wife was going to do that, but who ever she talked to by phone at the Embassy was rude and treated her like she was a scam artist trying to get a Thai Passport . So she got one in Thailand instead. This was back in 2007.

I don't know if they are stricter now or if you can get 2 passports stamped.
