July 31, 201510 yr Author Are you sure? Because it is a one year visa (365 days) I entered the first time on 17th August 2014. Doesn't it mean that the visa expires on 17th August 2015? I really don't want to pay overstay fee!!!
July 31, 201510 yr The one year is the validity of the visa from the date it was issued and is shown as the enter before date on the visa. That is just the last day you can use it to enter the country not how long you can stay here. After you enter the country the admitted until date date on the entry stamp is the only date that matters.

I really don't want to pay overstay fee!!! If you care to look the visa expires on 03.08.02015 ! Staying beyond 12 Oct 2015 (The permission to stay date) will incur an overstay fine of 500 Bht/day
July 31, 201510 yr Author Thank you very much guys! nowretired says: ...the visa expires on 03.08.2015. So it is allowed to stay 3 months longer with an expired visa? Edited July 31, 201510 yr by markusrock555
July 31, 201510 yr Thank you very much guys! nowretired says: ...the visa expires on 03.08.2015. So it is allowed to stay 3 months longer with an expired visa? Yes. There is a difference between the expiry date of the visa itself - that is the last day you can ENTER the country - and the permission to stay which is 90 days after you entered.
July 31, 201510 yr Author I always thought the date of the first entry matters, which is 17th August 2014 So if you use max. and enter the first time on the "issue date" and the last time on the "enter before" day, it is in fact a 1 year 3 monhts visa/permission to stay, right? Really?

July 31, 201510 yr Thank you very much guys! nowretired says: ...the visa expires on 03.08.2015. So it is allowed to stay 3 months longer with an expired visa? No quite. You can enter the country at any date up to 03.08.2015. You can stay until 90 days after you last entered. So if you leave and come back on 03.08.2015, you will get a stamp until 90 days after that.
July 31, 201510 yr Author You guys are so sure, fast and precise. I'm new here and this forum is incredible! Thank you so much! A last little request and I could totally relax: -A link to another topic in the forum where this situation is also discussed and actually worked out in the end or -Even better an official regulation or gov. website from thailand which states that Edited July 31, 201510 yr by markusrock555
July 31, 201510 yr What does the Visa Expiration Date Mean? The visa expiration date is shown on the visa. Depending on the alien’s nationality, visas can be issued for any number of entries, from as little as one entry to as many as multiple (unlimited) entries, for the same purpose of travel. This generally means the visa is valid, or can be used from the date it is issued until the date it expires, for travel for the same purpose, when the visa is issued for multiple entry. This time period from the visa issuance date to visa expiration date as shown on the visa, is called visa validity. If you travel frequently as a tourist for example, with a multiple entry visa, you do not have to apply for a new visa each time you want to travel to Thailand. The visa validity is the length of time you are permitted to travel to a port-of-entry in Thailand to request permission of the immigration officer to permit you to enter Thailand. The visa does not guarantee entry to Thailand. The Expiration Date for the visa should not be confused with the authorized length of your stay in Thailand, given to you by the immigration officer at port-of-entry. The visa expiration date has nothing to do with the authorized length of your stay in Thailand for any given visit. Each time you arrive at the port-of-entry, an immigration officer decides whether to allow you to enter and how long you can stay. Only the immigration officer has the authority to permit you to enter Thailand. http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/content/visaxpiredate.html
August 1, 201510 yr Author New situation!!! Now out of nowhere my friends travel to Laos for a few days and I want to join. But that is probably not good for my visa. I would leave Thailand on 3rd August and come back on 7th August. So they won’t let me in with my expired visa right? Actually I’m planning to stay longer in Thailand, even finding a job after graduating in October, but not sure. What would you recommend me? 1. Extension of the ED visa. I’m enrolled as a student until December. or 2. My nationality is German. I could get in as tourist for 30 days. I will probably leave the country again on 6th September anyway. That tourist visa is not in conflict with the expired ED visa right? Edited August 1, 201510 yr by markusrock555
August 1, 201510 yr 1. Visas are never extended . You could , with paperwork supplied by the school, apply for a new ED visa but a multiple entry ED visa is not available within the region. 2.A 30 day visa exempt entry should not be a problem. You could acquire a single or double entry tourist visa whilst in Laos.
August 1, 201510 yr Author 1. Visas are never extended . You could , with paperwork supplied by the school, apply for a new ED visa but a multiple entry ED visa is not available within the region. Of course there is something like an extension, call it extension of stay then This topic refers to ED visa often only get 2 months extension from now http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/790374-visa-ed-only-got-2-months-extension/ But my university for sure can give me a letter that states that I will enrolled until the end of December in order to graduate. It's just so soon, on Monday 3rd August my visa will expire. I'm worried if I go to the immigration office after 3rd August that I will have a big problem for extension, right? Edited August 1, 201510 yr by markusrock555
August 1, 201510 yr You have permission to stay until 12 OCt 2015. It is entirely possible that, with the correct paperwork , supplied by the university, that the immigration service would extend that permission to stay until you graduate. If you wish to leave the country for a few days prior to 12 Oct you must obtain a re-entry permit from immigration. The re-entry permit will allow you to re-enter Thailand with your permission to stay date intact . Edited August 1, 201510 yr by nowretired
August 1, 201510 yr Author Cool How can I apply for a re-entry permit? Probably at the immigration office, not at the airport right? Do you know the price of a re-entry permit? I mean it's only for 5 days that I would leave the country. For this way still the university paperwork required? Edited August 1, 201510 yr by markusrock555
August 1, 201510 yr Single re-entry permit costs 1000 Bht and can be obtained from an immigration office or either of the two Bangkok airports,
August 1, 201510 yr Author Where at the airport DMK??? When I talk to immigration officer for departure, I will tell him that I need a re-entry permit, like that?
August 1, 201510 yr Author And in case I would decide for the ED visa extension to stay solution, do you guys think it is important that I go the immigration office before 3rd August?
August 1, 201510 yr The immigration officers are closed on Sundays. The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
August 1, 201510 yr The re-entry permit counter at DMK is open 24 hours every day. At the immigration desk, ask for it before you give them your passport for the departure stamp and they will tell you where it is. The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
August 1, 201510 yr Author Luckily the 3rd is a Monday ;-) But that does not answer my question, which is... Is it required to go to the immigration office before 3rd August or before 12th October to do the extension of stay in my case? (Maybe look the photos in the first post) Edited August 1, 201510 yr by markusrock555
August 1, 201510 yr You can apply for your extension of stay until closing hours of the immigration office on the expiration date of your permit to stay, which currently is 12 OCT 2015. If you get a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand on 03 AUG you will on your return to Thailand again get permission to stay until 12 OCT 2015. The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
August 2, 201510 yr You have been told several times the the 3rd of August means nothing now that you are in the country. Only the the date on your entry stamp is important. You just need to apply for an extension prior to the 12 of October. You can get a re-entry permit that will allow to enter the country and be stamped in until the 12th of October.

I had 2 ED visas previously & they were all valid for 3 months only. Which countries offer 1 year ED visas? Considering these days that after 6 months you need to do a MoE test if you want to extend for another 6 months to total a year of stay, I'm curious of which countries would do that. Unless maybe if it's a multiple entry visa & they give it for a year then maybe.
