BANGKOK: -- Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSA) has indicated that the country’s exports has fallen to the lowest point in a six year period and expects that exports will contract further by 4.2%.

TNSA chairman Nopporn Thepsithar has revealed that the poor global economic outlook and the fall in the values of the currencies of Thailand’s competing countries has had a negative effect on the economy.

He said that although the Baht had fallen to 36 baht to a US dollar, competitors are reaping the benefits of their currencies devaluing at a more significant rate.

Furthermore, the continued drop in global fuel prices accompanied with continued migration of production base of critical products from the country has had a drastic effect on the country’s exports.

With this in mind, he said the TNSA has been forced to make adjustments to export projections for the 2015 by as much as a 4.2% contraction.

This represents a sustained 3 year contraction and is also the lowest it has ever fallen in a 6 year period.

June’s exports figures contracted by 7.8% bringing the total export contraction for the first 6 months of the year to 4.84%.

The TNSA chairman said significantly, all vital markets for Thailand also experienced dramatic decline such as the Middle-East market which plummeted by 24% while exports to other Asian markets contracted by 11.6% followed closely by the EU which saw a 7.1% contraction.

This however is offset by an increase in exports to Indo-Chinese markets such as Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam which grew by 10.8%, he said.

Well done to Paryut and the team for keeping the export figures relatively stable considering the current market. I wish Australia could see a reduction of only 4.2% in this economic climate. They have over 5% export contraction.

Even Singapore is showing around 9% contraction between January and June this year.

Don't forget kiddies I am not asking the local Thai guy than runs the Tom Yum food stall about this. I am referring to FACTS.......

Seriously, you make it up as you go along but I doubt that there are many left on here who are gullible enough to believe it.

And how soon will we hear that this is the fault of previous administrations?

The problem with this one-man band is he can only play one note.

I believe he likes to refer to them as previous "elected" governments...
