SRI RACHA: -- Sri Racha district officer today ordered the closure of two Karaoke shops in the beach town for five years after finding them violating the order of the prime minister banning alcohol sale, hiring illegal migrants.

Chief district officer Pornchai Tomkrachang said the two Karaoke shops are Sumsadao and Thung-Nguen located in Tambon Thungsuka in Sri Racha town.

He said a combined force of police, soldiers, excise, public health and social security officials inspected several entertainment venues in Laem Chabang area shortly midnight last nigh and found the two places operating business without official licences.

They also illegally employed foreign workers and employed service girls to serve clients which blatantly defied the order of the prime minister, he said.

He said he then ordered the two shops to stop business for five years.

He also warned other entertainment places in Sri Racha to strictly abide by the order of the military junta saying they could face similar shutdown for defiance.

five years? the ban is location based.

what license? i guess they are banning the people from opening a new Karaoke for five years. Their names now in a licensing database?

There is no sane rule of law here. Probably competition from other establishments owned by BiB's. There is a place in Jomtien that NEVER shuts down regardless of elections, religious holidays, etc. also owned by a BiB. Everyone in the surrounding area knows it and knows not to say anything about it.

Just wait until they walk down the road to Pattaya...

They could start a major recession of the economy in one night... gigglem.gif

Maybe, but they all have brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts. Just occupy the next vacant shop and move the equipment.

This is Laem Chabang not Sri Racha. It falls under Sri Racha district but the article is wrong. This is not in Sri Racha city itself. Laem Chabang karaokes are catering to Thai factory workers / truck drivers. Very much at the sleazy end of the market. The ban is likely to be for that licence which is particular to the location. If a new owner came in, I don't know what the council would decide. Same location, different licence holder may be able to circumvent the ban but don't know.
