Basic Thai sentences audio

Featured Replies

Hi

I recently started studying Thai. I have memorized maybe 200 or 300 Thai words over the last months. I can say simple things that Thai people usually understand. I try to focus on what I need at bus stations, restaurants, asking the way etc. I have learnt the Paiboon+ phonetic script. I read Thai script only slowly with great effort.

The problem is that my listening is very poor. I am not used to hearing Thai. I often don't understand what people reply, even very simple things.

I am looking for some audio that preferably works in my Android phone. Spoken sentences with phonetic script and translation. (Maybe I can learn some other phonetic script than Paiboon, if necessary.)

I have tried some web-pages. But that often becomes slow if my Internet connection is not good. But maybe that could be an alternative.

But is there any audio that I can download to the phone? If quality and function really improves by using a DVD I may even consider buying a computer. I have to start working on the language now.

What audio resources would you recommend?

(I heard that the Paiboon dictionary will come with a new edition that includes audio sentences. But it is some time until that.)

Thanks. I appreciate this site for advice I have received in the past.

Sorry if the question has already been asked.

I searched Google Play with "spoken Thai sentences"

I haven't installed any but the first three apps in the search results look promising.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Seeing your preference for the Paiboon pronunciation guide, there is Paiboon Publishing's Survival Thai for English, but it costs a few dollars so check it out before you download it.

Thanks. I will check out your suggestions.

It's a website, so you may have problems if you have a poor Internet connection, however, it's very well structured as a course:

http://www.thailanguagewiki.com/

(It's the Foreign Service Institute Thai Language Course reformatted and structured for the web.)

Just remembered, you can download all the FSI audio files from http://www.thai-language.com/fsi which should help with poor Internet connectivity.
