Any views on the likelihood of Thailand actually going ahead with the announced plan to not only tax remitted, but global income regardless of remittance? Strangely all the big accounting firms do not mention anything about this. Thanks. -

Well there are three kinds of guys who get hooked up with Thai women. Some of us get hooked up early through work or whatever, similar ages and it tends to look like a typical relationship in the West, will it last, who knows. Then you you get to what I think are the more problematic relationships. You're right right some older guys come for a couple of weeks, and it's pay for play. The sadder one's are the older fellas who will come for a couple of weeks, fall in 'love' with a gal half their age, sell up everything and move to Thailand. That's when it really is the 'recipe for disaster' -

I always found you spend too much time "online" in your room. Glad to hear that you have "hit the streets" finally. What you describe is something that happened over the last 50 years in Thailand. You should have gone out more often. A cleaning lady/girl at your hotel (erning 6000 Bht) will be thrilled to meet a ugly foreighner. As a matter of fact, her girlfriends will tell her that she has won the lottery and envy her accordingly. Those ladies/girls do not feel "enslaved". Quite the opposite, if something like this would lead to marriage with the ugly Farang she really has hit the "jackpot". You really should go out more often. Thus discovering that something like that is just normal procedure in tourist hot spots. Try it. Go out. The real world is so much more exiting than a 24/7 online existance. -

Are Older Men in Thailand Trading Love for Financial Ruin
I'm not so sure about the article for that age group. I'm mid 50's and not much interested in sex or women these days. The interest is just not there for me. I can still achieve and maintain an erection but it's something that happens during the act and not beforehand. I can see people coming over for an exciting holiday or a fling, but not long term for women. At this point I would not bother with an international flight from the USA. -

What city in Thailand has the best weather?
"That would be the city of Loei" "Cold as Russian Hell..." Car windows were icy in the morning - first ever I saw that in Thailand. I also found out gf's Isuzu PU didn't have heater! An other "First one". Days were very nice. Not much to see. -

I must admit you are right there, and kids, especially girls know the trick. I would have my teenage daughters mow the lawn. They quickly learned if they did a totally half ass***ed job, I just say, screw it and do it myself. Humans in general are a devious lot! -

Supporting documents required when re-entering on Non-O O/A Multiple Entry E-Visa
Our intent is to stay for nine months, our usual process is to obtain the Non O/A visa in the States and then on the last day it is valid to cross the border and re-enter, and by doing so be stamped in for an additional year, (O/A visas get stamped in for one year from the date of entry every time), then purchase re-entry permits for that year. In effect it stretches a one year O/A visa to two years. There is not a lot of savings in this method due to the price of the re-entry permits, but it does save the hassle of doing all of the paperwork required for a new visa every year. Looking at our paperwork I can see that the period they stamped us in for matches the expiration of our insurance policy and also the "good until" date of our visa. It could be that there was a miscommunication, the I/O clearly stated that we were given thirty days because we did not have proof of insurance, but it may very well be that the real issue may have been that they couldn't stamp us in for for a longer period of time than our medical insurance was valid for. In any case the local Immigration Office advised us that if we extended our health insurance for one year and went across the border and back on the last day our visa is valid they will stamp us in for one year. All is well that ends well. -

A dear Russian friend of mine once said that we mistakenly think they are Europeans, because (at least in most of the republics) they look ethnically Europeans. In reality however, Russians are Mongols, down deep in their hearts and souls. It took me a while and a bit of reading to come to terms with this reality. -

That may be the case for some, but our insurance is still valid and did not start until the day we entered Thailand, it matches the period of our visas. The I/O in charge said the problem was that we could not prove we had valid insurance because we did not have the insurance documents with us. That was my fault, I assumed we didn't need the documents because the e-visa stamp was in our passport and I thought that was proof enough that we met all of the requirements, such as having had the notice of visa approval and insurance documents on our first entry into the country. -

So, easy solution: Just feel free to bribe the tax official if they ever want your taxes. Where is the problem?
