Motorists Advised To Beware Of Illegal Street Racers.

BANGKOK: -- Weekend travellers planning to visit Nakhon Nayok’s Wang Takrai park are warned to drive in extreme caution if taking the Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok highway as several thousands of teenage street racers are heading there.

Most of these young bikers do not wear crash helmets and are riding in groups of 50-100 abreast of the outbound traffic of the highway.

Traffic police in Bangkok are trying in vain to stop these young motorcyclists as they mustered at several locations of the capital to avoid police road checkpoints, but with same destination at Wang Takrai.

It was not immediately known if there is any activity or concert that attract them to drive there but their presence on highway and many roads did cause a headache to traffic police.

It was expected they could mobilise in thousands to Wang Takrai together today through the social media.

JS 100 traffic radio advised motorists to drive in extreme caution as these young bikers are defying traffic laws with no attention to the safety of other road users.

Each year during 7 days of danger, you can find them racing past the temporary police check point in Kamala, while the police do absolutely nothing. Very easy to find, they just have to open their eyes.

I thought that the Junta had already "reformed" the Dek Van problem?

PM to tackle street racing by “Dek Van” seriously

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday vowed to stop street racing by "Dek Van" (underaged motorcycle racers) once and for all after these youths continued to defy law.

It's very simple. Catch them racing. Take their bikes and impound if for 6 months. Catch them again and crush them with a steam roller. Noone should put up with their crap antics on the roads. The solution is simple, but TiT and the powers that be contue to pussy foot around with the law. ENFORCE the Law! Why is it so hard to do? Don't wanna confrontation? Fix the culture! I don't nanny states either but this is going from the sublime to the ridiculous..

Look people don't be alarmed about this.

Its akin to a lemming cull or a kind of Darwinian rite of passage.

If the Dek Van survive the ordeal, they get to move up to the next level-

This is the 'brain lottery' phase, each survivor buys a ticket to win a brain.

If they are unlucky, they just come back the following year.1310554066790.jpg

8-9-2015-12-14-40-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Metropolitan and provincial police today rounded up several hundreds of young motorcyclists as they mustered at several locations in Bangkok and adjacent provinces to drive to Nakhon Nayok's Wang Takrai waterfall.

Assistant commissioner of the Royal Thai Police Pol Lt Gen Prawut Thavornsiri said Sunday that these young motorcyclists claimed they were planning to Wang Trakrai for visit but they intended to race along the way from Bangkok to Nakhon Nayok in defiance of the law.

They drove on the Vibhavadi Rangsit in large number abreast of all lanes, even on inbound lanes with no fear of the law and with no regard to the safety of other road users, he said.

More than a hundred of them were rounded up at bang Khen intersection in front of Bang Khen railway station.

At noon the police are still questioning them and are screening those who have no driving licences and their motorcycles to see if they were modified,

Pol Lt Gen Prawutnsaid these defiant racers started mustering at various places in the capital at 5 am, waiting for the police to lift their routine road checkpoints.

He said by noon today the police were still taking them and transporting their vehicles on trucks to the station.

“It’s really a waste of time to deal with these young racers, as the police still have other important things to do,'” he said.

He also said they and their parents could face charges if their motorcycles were found to be modified for racing, to drive with no licence.

Initially these youngsters will face charge for driving with no regard to the safety of others, he added.

Earlier in the morning their presences on several locations in the capital and on major highway which include Vibhavadi Rangsit and RangsitbNakgon Nayok turned traffic on these roads to chaos.

Hundreds of these young motorcyclists, under 18 years old, were intercepted and have all their vehicles checked as well as their driving licences.

The police later exercised power under Article 44 to confiscate all their motorcycles for check.

If they are found to be modified for racing they will be seized, and their parents will also face charges under the order earlier announce by the military junta.

Most of theses teenagers did not wear crash helmets and they drove in large groups of 50-100 abreast of the roads, and some also in the reversible lanes ignoring traffic law.

But several hundreds of these teenagers were able to avoid police road blocks and were making their way to Wang Trakrai waterfall.

Meanwhile Prachinburi police were also trying to intercept hundreds young street racers as they blocked all traffic lanes to race along a section of the road from Prachinburi to Nakhon Nayok.

Motorists have to stop to let these youngsters to race.

There is an opportunity for someone to set up a drag strip for these kids, sell vendor spots, charge small entrance fees, etc etc.

Of course some wont go, because its the outlaw element that is attractive to them, still better than what it is now, cops chasing chickens around the roads

They should ticket them and impound the bikes, tell them to pick up the bike they will need to come to some central location with parent, they must pay the fine, pay for expense of impounding the bike and show either they have a license, pay the registration fee (road tax) or have a helmet before the bike is released to the parents.

Sounds like the number of motorcycles involved in this ''rallky'' has simply overwhelmed by the number, noise, lack of being forewarned of the rally, etc. In other words the RTP are doing what they do bes standing around with one thumb in their mouth and the satuck up thei backside.

thousands of undercover cops in the country and the police apparently had no workaqble plan to make the roads safe for the public sector. More inactive posts may be forthcoming

Track down 2-3 locations where events of this kind are taking place. Arrest and prosecute with a vengeance (1st offense 5-10K THB fine), and make it VERY public. That will put a big dent in the frequency of them. At a minimum, force them to move to much more remote locales.

If it's not a jail-able offense, taking large sums of money out of one's pocket for breaking the law..., great concept. It does work.

I was told of a rumor a long time ago, of a dark-tinted black Fortuner and Camry roaming the streets of Bangkok for these bikers. When they found the bikers, the Fortuner and Camry would roll down their windows and shoot at these bikers, not all, just a few. I don't know how true these rumors are.

But that was back when the police couldn't do anything.

Recently a "street" drag strip for this type of racing was set up, exactly as you envisage, at Buriram Racetrack. It is very well managed, full medical cover etc, and is packed with these kids at every meeting. Whilst it will not help Bangkok, I am sure a similar facility could be replicated there.

Nice to see the RTP actually doing something, it is actually hard to believe they can do something like this without the assistance of the army.

Still think the army should be observing to ensure the "do you know who my farther is?" thing does not work...

Why not just promote a strong and stury chassis and drive there along with them...whoever needs medical attention then get's som nam na'd...? It's not that everybody needs the police to take care of some stuff, but getting a free pass not needing to take responsibility if somethings happens...

These young hooligans are showing no respect for the law or the Thai authorities. It's outrageous!

It is clear that the Prime Minister has set a policy to eliminate illegal street racing and modified bikes. These ruffians are well aware. They should respect the PM. After all, he is a role model for all Thai people, always working within the law, and creating new laws whenever necessary to maintain Peace and Order.

These young thugs also show a disturbing lack of respect for the Police, who are the last defense against chaos on the roadways. As these thoughtless cretins must realize, the Police are constant in their monitoring of vehicles on the roadways, carefully screening motorcycle riders, and assessing 200 baht fines for those with the ability to pay.

The young miscreants can be excused for their youthful exuberance, but they also must learn that to get respect, you must give respect; and, respect is earned. Earned every day by the law abiding elders these immature toughs are so quick to ignore.

And furthermore...

Ah, who am I kidding? The role models suck.

Now where are the keys to my Suzuki. I feel the need for speed. tongue.png
