Thailand-Myanmar visa-free travel effective midnight tonight

BANGKOK, 10 August 2015 (NNT) – The visa-free agreement to Thai tourists entering Myanmar is to come into effect at midnight tonight, the Thai DPM has said.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn, the visa-free travel agreement for ordinary Thai passport holders visiting Myanmar on tourism purposes, will come into effect at midnight tonight, or 00:00am of 11 August 2015.

The visa exemption agreement will only be valid to individuals entering Myanmar by air, and only to those disembarking at one of the three international airports including Naypyidaw, Yangon, or Mandalay.

Regarding the issuance of multiple visas for travelers who wish to enter Thailand more than once, the Ministry of Interior has already announced the ministerial regulations on this matter earlier this morning, while the consideration on this topic must be made in parallel with the nation's security concerns, the Thai DPM has stated.

As for the flood relief aid to Myanmar, Myanmar has not made any additional requests for assistance, as the affected areas are currently not ready to receive any more aid items, though Thailand is prepared to provide immediate assistance as soon as it is requested from Myanmar, the Thai DPM concluded.
