Getting money back from visa company

Featured Replies

Thought it was legit as their office and staff looked ok, their facebook page had good comments. Your right too 45k is peanuts but its the principal. I was going to transfer the 400k to my thai bank but they said they would put the money in for 3months so nothing looked like they were not a legit company

  • This is what happens when illegal means are employed to obtain a visa/extension of stay. I think the chances of getting the money returned are close to zero.

  • Maybe I'm wrong but I'm under the impression that ain't a real loan, one pay a fee for an abracadabra trick... money in, money out . If so it is illegal .

  • To me, this is; "one scammer scam the other scammer". You use a company in Thailand to make a shortcut in order to obtain an EXTENSION OF STAY here in Thailand.... A tip, next time... go by the boo

I have gone by the book. I went to what I thought was a legit company to obtain a 1 year marriage visa, not an extension of stay. When I couldn't attend appointment in Bkk because I was in hospital the company got a fake 2month extension.

You absolutely have not done it by the book. The 400,000 in the bank is supposed to be proof of your ability to provide for yourself during your stay in Thailand, and thus of course has to be money that are at your disposal to spend. Borrowing money for three months hardly equates to being able to spend it during the year, does it?

You tried to deceive the system but was deceived yourself – take it as a lesson and do it the proper way next time.

I showed my European accounts which had about 50 times that amount but they would not accept it.

The money needs to be in a Thai Bank - The rules on this point are very clear.

You were not trying to get a 1 year marriage visa, you were trying to get a 1 year extension of your permission to stay, due to marriage. Instead they got you a 60 day extension due to having a Thai spouse -- where you don't have to show "aged" funds.

The only way you could have received a medical extension is by involving your doctor in producing some documents that you were unable to travel. Doesn't sound like that was done.

While it may not technically be illegal to borrow the money to put into a Thai bank to age for 90 days to get a marriage extension it doesn't make sense. Why pay someone 10,000 baht for this loan if you have 50 times that amount in Europe? Why not simply transfer 400,000 baht into Thailand and let it sit untouched in a Thai bank? Are the interest rates in Europe really that much better than in Thai banks? That 10,000 fee works out to something around a 10% interest rate.

I paid for a doctors letter and the doctor emailed all the relevant documents. They told me it was a 60 day medical extension but it turned out not to be. When I suggested transferring the 400k which takes a few days they said that they were taking the paperwork to Bkk the next day and the 10k sounded good idea as they said would get the 10k back when passport is returned

Seems like the classic scam of "bank account stuffing" which comes at a high price!

You don't "pay for a doctor's letter" You ask for one as a part of your doctor's appointment. I've never known a doctor to charge extra to complete the required forms for a medical extension.

The days of "buying" a medical extension from a shady clinic ended with the coup. Now all documentation for a medical extension have to come from a doctor practicing with a government hospital.

Yeah your right. It was the appointment I paid 500 baht for, not the letter and it was from a government hospital. Anyway the letter was obviously not used

Not strictly true.

A friend who is receiving medical care within a private hospital has just secured an extension with the help of the patient liaison officer and his doctor.

' Ive done everything by the book and thought they were a legitimate company. ' cheesy.gif

sorry, you have not done everything by the book. You thought they were a Legitimate Company ? what from a friend of a friend or a bar girl told you or you just read it in the jobs classifieds in a newspaper.

Forget the 45k ... it's peanuts ... and lesson learnt !! and maybe do it correctly next time so there is no scamming. ... coffee1.gif

What do you know about to say that? Who gives you the right of stuffing "bargirl" into a reply about things you don't even know?

If 45K Bath are peanuts for, what are you doing here on an Internet forum? You should be out spending money.

You best writing it off as bad experience.

Don't trust anyone here even immigration staff as they all full of bad advice & the odd con for some of your $

Ideally you should of got a medical extension yourself then when able a non O multi 1yr visa based on marriage from savannakhet laos which is very basic in terms of paperwork & no finance needed, that would of been cheap, easy & given you good 15months to prepare money etc for extension of stay based on marriage.

throwing money at the visa companies is just stupid, it far easier & far far far cheaper learn your required visa details & do it yourself properly ...

I showed my European accounts which had about 50 times that amount but they would not accept it.

As others have said - that was you initial mistake. Next time you have an issue about immigration come to this forum and ask, you will receive the best advice.

With a bit of harassment I got 35000 back. Happy days.
