There are none from Pattaya, Bangkok or anywhere else I know of.

You can get the Yellow bus from Pattaya to Mukdahan.

You can fly from DMK to Mukdahan that is a fly/ride service via Naknon Phanom or Sakon Nakhon on Nok Air or Air Asia.

Other options are a bus from Morchit in Bangkok. Or a train to here in Ubon and then a bus or van to Mukdahan.

Edit: Another bus option from Pattaya would be Nakhon Chai Air to here in Ubon and then a bus or van to Mukdahan.

.... or UbonJoe/OP, if this poster is correct:

..another alternative might be Utapao to Udon Thani (990 promo flights when it briefly ran before). I know there are long distance buses from KK to Mukdahan, so there are probably the same from Udon. Unfortunately it seems that the Utapao to Ubon Ratchatani route will not be re-established

Some enterprising lady in Ubon should think about setting up a visa run service. Flights to Ubon from DMK are ridiculously cheap at the moment. I just booked a return flight out this coming Saturday/back next Saturday (booked 7 days prior to flight) with newbie (to Ubon) Lion Air Thailand. Total cost with 20kg thrown in free was 1,140 baht. Yes, that is the return fare!! At that price all Bangkok visa runners should be doing the Ubon to Mukdahan (vans/buses/taxi) to Savanakhet route, rather than using the northern Vientiane route. Don't know how long those intro promos will last - possibly more than a few weeks as Lion AIr really have to drive Nok Air into a serious schedule reduction if they are to make long term money on this route (I suspect).

Careful with your b's and d's when discussing Ubon and Udon!

Flying to here is certainly a good option. Plenty of buses and vans going to Mukdahan every day since it is neighboring province. There have been some people do it already.

Getting from Udon Thani to Mukdahan is not all that easy. There are not very many buses making the trip. About the same for KK to Mukdahan.

My fingers know the difference between Ubon and Udon. Most of the time I write Udon Thani.

Errata - std baggage allowance on Thai Lion Air on the DMK-Ubon run (and probably elsewhere domestically) is 15kg not 20kg.

Didn't think you would have a problem with your d's and b's Ubonjoe - comment was for the non-cognoscenti
