Anton's in Nakluea

Featured Replies

I have heard that Anton's German restaurant has closed. Can anyone confirm this? Will he reopen elsewhere? I always enjoyed the German buffet, not gourmet but decent and always plenty to eat.

Not surprised if it had, numbers were well down and food choice was getting low, shame really western food as you liked it

Open with customers day and night. I pass by a few times/day.

Can anyone confirm if it's closed or open?

It's closed.

I just drove by 30 minutes ago (10:30, Aug 15th). Saw some kitchen equipment moved out to the center area.

I don't know what they are doing as far as moving, remodeling, going out of business etc. but I can confirm it is closed now.

That's a shame. I've been a few times. As mentioned, not gourmet but a perfectly decent place to get some traditional German favourites at a reasonable price.

I had a very pleasant set meal at Bei Gerhard in Soi 31 the other evening and this will now be my go to German restaurant. I went to Antons several times and yes, it was OK but nothing special. I hope it is just closed for a refurb as otherwise that's quite a few skilled staff out of work.

Skilled staff are never out of work in Pattaya

As far as I know the original host (his name was not Anton tongue.png ) left/sold the business quite a while ago.

The quality of the breakfast has gone down over the years. I gave up visiting.

Never had the evening buffet.

Drove-by about week ago or so and it still looked open at this time.

So a very recent development.

Just read some vague infos on German sources:

It IS definitely closed and moving(?) to Soi 27.

Don't nail me for that.

Well they wont be moving very far then

It's a large empty space to fill. I predict another coffee chain or a fast food chain. There is a Domino's Pizza across the street and that's the only chain in all of Naklua.

Bon Cafe 2 blocks away is often very busy.

I don't go into Coffee Club.

Looks to me like Naklua road close to the circle is in a state of "upscaling"/"urbanization".

I was confused when I first saw if coming back after a year or so.

Anton is not the only "German" place that gave up at the front road.

Another place gave up due to extreme rise in rent and moved far away.

The start of the end in my opinion.

Well they wont be moving very far then

Only way to survive with the name I would say.

It could have something to do with the encoachment onto the right of way. Many places are having to demolish their frontages for example barracuda bar recently. Take away 3 m or so from Antons front and there would be very little left.

Sounds likely to me also. So many places get hit with this.

I tried the buffet once and wasn't pleased with the quality.

I'm no German food expert but the best I've had locally was at Bei Gerhard.

Peter, the owner of 'Anton' cancelled his rental contract.

Not a big loss for the gourmet-community in my opinion.

He continues business in Anton 2, Soi Roi Lang.

Have you tried the German bakery in Jomtien ? They have now extended their menu so not only a breakfast place , now they serve traditional German dishes. Open unil 9 PM.

Nope. I hadn't heard that. Will do.

Soi Roi Lang, that consistent with what I found.

Soi Roi Lang is Soi 27, so basicallly just moving around the corner.

Would not be surprised to hear that Peter (former boss ‘For Ever Music Bar’ – Naklua Road and on Soi 33) would have taken over.

Whilst today all the furniture was removed he was sitting in the place to supervising all the activities.

Peter has an extensive restaurant experience in Germany.

If anyone knows, is this Anton 2 (Soi Roi Lang) already open, or is that merely the future location? Thanks!

This morning I walked through the first part of Soi 27 (Naklua Road till 7/11 at the first corner) but did not notice anything new.

Passing by this establishment in the late afternoon not seeing the retired Germans drinking their beer looking onto Naklua Rd will be a missing landmark for Naklua.

nor getting stared at by the passing hoards of Chinese.

Was suggested his new place is by the new 7/11 on the bend further down the road 27

His new place is deep into Soi 27.

I will add a picture form the new place (currently being constructed).

Oke one more try to add the picture....

Sorry, cannot get it working.

I hope someone can confirm.

I haven't been there yet. Not before next month.

The new place is here:

Anton 2 Street View

(this picture on street view is from 2012, so no "Anton..." to see.

Coordinates:

12.9543572,100.8949844

Opposite of "Dang Appartments".

A bit tricky to find. Not just straight into Soi 27 (its some "sub Soi").

Its about 500m (550 yards) from Naklua road.

Not the shortest path but easy tongue.png

The path shown in my picture is not the best choice.
Coming from Nakluea rd. turn left at the first intersection and then next right into the sub Soi.

I have heard that Kiss Food group (owner of the place) will open a branch at the former "Anton" location as they will close/shut down the one at the dolphin roundabout
