Watched the final day of the Turkish Open today.

Kiradech finished third, a great performance from him, being in contention all through the final round and leading for a few holes towards the end.

However, his style of play, very adventurous, means that he is always prone to a few wayward shots, as happened towards the end of the round. But I'm sure that his miss of a very short putt on the final green will linger long in his memory. If he had holed it, he would have finished in a tie for second and an increased prize money of about €150k - about Bt6million. Ouch!!

No matter, well done Kiradech and best of luck in the next tournament -the WGC - HSBC Champions in China this coming week.

Have read that the winner of the Turkish Open, VDubuisson, is not eligible to play at the Chinese event. Odd.

Agree that Kiradech can be wild at times. Works best in match play where big score any hole is only one hole lost. Shoot an 8 in stroke play = pack it up.

I think that Dubuisson's ranking was just outside the qualification level when the entry list closed for the HSBC tournament. But surprised there was no entry place open for the winner of the Turkish Open if not already qualified. That certainly happens for a lot of other big events.

Also read that Poulter's mad dash to HK of a couple of weeks back didn't need to happen. Originally he didn't qualify for the HSBC but came through as 4th/5th reserve when a number of golfers pulled out late. He had needed one more Euro tourney to keep his card (and ensure he had a chance for the Ryder Cup) and ended up with a couple more. Hindsight would be great!!

I don't know the ins and outs of the Poulter issue but it seemed to me a bit lax of him to have been in the situation so late in the season or was it just that he was not playing well enough?

Yes, the simple answer was that his form tailed off and, after being in the 30's during most of the year he dropped out of the top 50 qualifying mark for the HSBC on the week that decided the entrants. I recall reading that a couple of golfers outside of the top 50 had a good final week and that bumped Poulter off the list.

Fair play to him, though, for taking the effort to ensure he protected his Ryder Cup chances. Even more so to Rich Beem who gave up his spot on the HK event to allow Poulter to play. It's a tough life, but someone has to do it. Just wish it was mesmile.png
