Several motorcycle taxi operators located here on Soi Sathorn 10 said they gave numerous rides to a man between December and February who matched a passport photo shown to them by investigators hunting for the Bangkok bomber.

BANGKOK — Motorcycle taxi operators in an upscale, residential neighborhood have identified a man seen numerous times there between December and February as matching a passport photo shown to them by investigators hunting the suspected Bangkok bomber, who might have been using a fake Turkish passport.

NCPO: Bombing investigations produce progress

BANGKOK, 23 August 2015 (NNT) - The National Council of Peace and Order (NCPO) has announced that the investigations into the bomb blasts at Ratchaprasong intersection and Sathorn pier have progressed well with more evidence being gathered.

NCPO Spokesman Col. Winthai Suwaree on Sunday said the overall situation after the explosions was generally peaceful and officers had more evidence on the incidents. Two people who had published misleading information in the social media had been arrested, the spokesman said.

Col. Winthai added that the NCPO would announce the cases’ progress as deemed fit. Law enforcement against illegal actions has been intensified in Bangkok to ensure security for the public.

The government has already paid compensation to relatives of 16 injured and killed people. 14 of them are foreigners and two Thais. The government has expedited compensation for 100 others.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has compensated nine injured people. Four of the injured have left the hospitals and 52 others are still hospitalized.

The NCPO spokesman asked the public to provide useful information for the investigations at hotline 1515.

Princess Sirindhorn to open Thai National Day at EXPO Milan 2015 in Italy

BANGKOK, 23 August 2015 (NNT) - Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn early yesterday morning proceeded to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Samut Prakan Province to board a Thai Airways International plane for an official visit to the Republic of Italy.

Her Royal Highness was seen off at the airport by members of the Cabinet, high-ranking officials from the military, police, justice, and civil service sectors, members of the wives’ associations of the armed forces, representatives of the Thai Red Cross Society and Village Scouts.

In Italy, Her Royal Highness will attend the EXPO Milan 2015 in Milan, where she will observe various individual and groups of pavilions arranged by the participating countries. The Princess will preside over the opening of the National Day of Thailand at the expo.

Her Royal Highness will also grant an audience to Mr. Giuseppe Sala, Commissioner of the Government of Italy for Expo Milano 2015, who will host a luncheon for the Princess.

Her Royal Highness will stay in Italy until 26 August 2015.

Man Dropped Bag into Water Night Before Sathorn Pier Blast

Low quality CCTV footage shows a man drop a plastic bag into the water less than a half hour after Monday night's deadly blast, where less than 16 hours later a blast occurred.

BANGKOK — Less than 30 minutes after a bomb exploded Monday night at the Erawan Shrine, a man dropped a bag into the water next to a footbridge near Sathorn Pier that could have been the device which exploded harmlessly the next afternoon.
