BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok South Criminal Court on Monday issued warrants for the arrest of former deputy commerce minister Banyin Tangphakorn and two alleged accomplices on charges of theft, falsifying official documents and using false official documents.

The two alleged accomplices were identified as Ms Kanthana Sivathanapol, a close friend of Mr Chuwong Sae Tang, a billionaire contractor who was killed in a mysterious car accident on June 26, and Ms Oracha Wachirakulthon, a stock broker.

Warrant was also issued for a third alleged accomplice, Ms Srithara Promma, mother of Ms Oracha, on charges of theft and receiving stolen property.

Mr Chuwong was travelling in a car driven by Pol Lt-Col Banyin, also a former MP when the car accidentally rammed into a roadside tree killing Mr Chuwong. After the victim was cremated, his family became suspicious of his death and asked the Crime Suppression Division police to investigate the case.

The police investigators found out that shortly before Mr Chuwong’s death, about 300 million baht worth of shares owned by the billionaire contractor were transferred to Ms Kanthana and Ms Srithara.

About time. But seriously why publicise the arrest warrant... such an act of stupidity is gonna have these shifty characters running for the border as we speak.

Theyve got plenty of ill gotten gains to lay low for a long time..

As usual, he will get away and avoid the more important charge, which is pre-meditated murder. Let's see if any of the four indicted criminals are still in Thailand and haven't fled to Cambodia.

That would make sense if any of them had actually been charged with premeditated murder.

You must mean all those ill-gotten gains that were frozen?

Condescending as always Sviss Geez, pathetic, how about do some homework first. The shares were frozen weeks, maybe even months after the transfer, one of the women was reported to have purchased a house for 10 million baht before the victim's kin really started to push the authorities to re investigate. The report with it in (buying a house) is out there. Now be a good boy and go get it if you want to get up to speed.

So you think these people are just gonna hang around waiting to get locked up, or shut up by some henchmen somewhere. One of the caddies reported having her phone tapped and being shadowed by burly men once some of the gorier details came out. I am pretty sure some nice haven over the border will be safer than any protective custody they'd get from the RTP if they decided to make claims against banyin.

without thye family intervention the BIB would have lost another one and the public would have been none the wiser, The police make incompentance look so easy and natural.

The PM must be aware of how corrupt and unprofessional they are,, Maybe he is wondering what to do with several thousand crooked, misfits who have virtualoly nothing to contribute to society.l Many are partners in the illegal part of evey major city, gambling, prostituesw, human trafficing, stolen motorcycles, etc so many will end up behind bars when reolaced with honest law enforcement. Be sure and include immigration in the clean up .

That was probably the easier part.
The investigation into the crash of a mysterious death is probably still running on.
Also the first fatal accident involving his wife has apparently resumed.
Unfortunately, there is about no new news.

If anybody thinks Banyin will ever be convicted of anything serious they are fooling themselves.

The guy is a high ranking, connected cop. You need anything else?

A former Police Lt. Colonel, PTP MP, Deputy Commerce Minister in government.

How can anyone suspect such a pillar of community and selfless public servant of such acts?

Clearly he will attend the police and answer these charges in such a way the OAG won't take on the prosecution. whistling.gif

BANGKOK: -- The Southern Bangkok Criminal Court yesterday issued an arrest warrant for former deputy commerce minister Pol Lt-Colonel Banyin Tangpakorn over allegations of theft, document forgery and taking stolen items into possession in relation to the transfer of Bt300 million worth of shares owned by a late construction tycoon.

The Nation learned that Banyin will meet the police this morning to fight the allegations.

Arrest warrants were also issued for the two share recipients. Brokerage-firm employee Uracha Wachirakun-thon, who received more than Bt30 million worth of shares via her mother Srithara Promma's account, is facing charges of theft and forgery. Srithara, meanwhile, faces the charge of theft or taking stolen items into possession.

Former "pretty" presenter Kantana Siwathanapon, who received Bt228 million worth of shares, is facing charges of theft, forgery and taking stolen items into possession.

Chuwong Saetang, 50, was killed in a car crash under suspicious circumstances in late June. Banyin was driving the car. Chuwong's relatives called for an investigation into his death, pointing out certain factors, including the share transfers made just days before his death.

Pol Maj-General Akaradech Pimolsri, commander of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), said investigators had gathered sufficient evidence against the four suspects before applying for the arrest warrants.

As for a separate probe into Chuwong's death, he said that if city police suspected foul play or murder, the CSD would take over the case.

Police spokesman Lt-General Prawut Thavornsiri concurred that the warrants had been issued because the four clearly knew about the share transfer and that forensic tests showed that the documents had been altered. He said the form was originally meant for a share transfer as a deposit for other share purchases, but had been altered. Also, the message on a copy of Chuwong's identity card guaranteeing only the share deposit had been erased.

Prawut also said police had no evidence suggesting that Chuwong was aware of this share transfer. He said the billionaire's relatives also insisted that the voice on the audio clip wasn't Chuwong's and that the incoming call number also wasn't his.

Prawut said more arrest warrants might be issued as the case proceeds.

Meanwhile, Kantana's lawyer Seksan Senachu insisted that his client had not fled after learning of the arrest warrant, adding that he would escort her to the CSD office to fight the allegation once he could contact her. He added that he was preparing to apply for bail. Uracha and Srithara could not be reached as of press time.

At least the billionaire's money got him this far. Anyone else would have been shooed away. I wonder what happens when money meets connected.
