British man arrested for raping UK woman in Cambodia is cleared by CCTV

I think people are being unduly harsh on the 2 friends who initiated the complaint and the woman herself, and overlooking weaknesses in the Cambodian process.

She left for a walk with man (drunk) and returned bruised, shaken and crying. And due to her shock and inebriation could not clearly tell her friends what had happened. Not at all surprising that they would assume she'd been raped. Now in fact the crying, shaking and state of shock were all due to the fractured wrist but they had no way of knowing this.

Wherrvthings then got off script compared to what would happen in a developed country was at the hospital. A proper exam would have shown indications of sexual activity but none of rape (unless the woman is completely unconscious at the time there will be gyn findings that indicate it was forcible sex) and that the injuries were fully consistent with a fall and not particularly consistent with a struggle with another person. Doctors would have noted all that, treated the woman's pain, calmed her down and the whole business would have likely been cleared up at that stage with no police report (or if police had already been summoned, hospital would have told them it did not look like rape).

Anyone who has had any contact with Cambodian hospitals can well appreciate that all this is far beyond their capacities and forensic medecine is essentially nonexistant there.

Add to this likely communication barriers with the Cambodian police and their likely failure to ask the right questions. ("He sex with you? " and "you hurt?" not being sufficient).

The third point at which things went awry was that as the woman's shock from her injuries subsided and she also sobered up and thus recollected her wits enough to recall what had actually occurred and to understand that rape charges had wrongly been filed, her attempts to explain and get the charges dropped were ignored by the authorities. May have been a face issue but also from my experience likely a money one as well. Having sunk their teeth into what they thought were grounds to arrest a foreigner Camb police and prosecutors would likely be seeing dollar signs and reluctant to simply give that up.

What I don't see in all this is any intention on the part of the womans friends to file false charges nor on her part to falsely accuse.

He is lucky that the authorities paid finally attention to the evidence and that it existed in a form they could understand. There was a case a while ago where a foreigner was convicted of murder despite medical evidence that the victim died of natural causes and the prosecutor even saying so.

Corruption on the part of police and courts not infrequently plays a role in these things.

Mr LayCOCK ,should change his name ,and stop shagging Western tarts (especially if they are customers of his business ).The Western Female in general still hold a lot of guilt about sex with a stranger. He should find himself a nice Cambo girl .

Jail her, put her in jail.

Why?

"Dazed from her fall and confused about what had actually happened, it is understood the young woman tried to withdraw her statement in which she said she had been raped....But the police declined to allow her to recant it."

Jail the police.

Put her in jail anyway, just for being stupid.

.

He's one of those 'straight up guys' that take obliterated girls to smelly Cambodian rivers to have sex, and then walk ahead of them on the way back to the BAR, and doesnt help them tend to their injuries after falling and cutting their wrist and injuring their back.

False rape accusations increase every year while rape itself has decreased by 50% in the last 50 years. Women are very rarely charged.

It's all due to the fake 'rape culture' in the west where Feminism run the media there and continue to promote hate to men.

Germany had a famous faked rape case a few years ago. An ex girl friend (Claudia Dinkel) filed rape charges against her ex lover Jörg Kachelmann, a well known TV weather man. He was arrested for 3 months in a remand prison. Later it appeared that she had invented everything and even faked her injuries. But police and coroner only investigated the man and refused to do anything to check the woman. After many months and after having lost his job and his money the court unwillingly discharged him. Nothing happened to the woman nor to the police nor the coroner who was even promoted.

Yes but for making clear that untrue rape claims are a crime - their punishment has to be equal with that of the men whose life they destroy.

And btw. In every rape claim police have to investigate both the man and the woman - because just a claim is easy to fake by every woman but the results for the man are devastating. Often abused by women for revenge or other reasons.
