A report in the Bangkok Post this morning stated that " An overwhelming 97.6% of the population want an honest P.M."

Why overwhelming? Did they expect most of the population to say they wanted a dishonest P.M.?

What was the question put to them? " Do you want an honest or dishonest P.M.?"

Or is it just overwhelming because they never thought so many people would want anything honest.?

I think it was "what do you value in a PM" ... and a list of qualities

I think you misunderstand their meaning of the word "overwhelming". They are referring to an overwhelming majority. If 51% felt like that, it would be a simple majority, but not an overwhelming majority. 97% would commonly be considered to be an overwhelming majority. It has nothing to do with the reasoning behind the polled question.

Why is anyone bothering with Thai news media at this point in time?

And, anything with a percentage sign on the pages of the Bangkok Post has always been iffy at best.

It does reflect the die-hard nature of some Thaksin supporters that 2.4% of the population honestly voted for their old standby in the poll.
