george Posted April 5, 2004 Share Posted April 5, 2004 SOCIAL ORDER CRUSADE Pimps, agents profit from shorter hours Sex workers forced to seek jobs overseas PHITSANOLUK: -- The government's strict social order campaign has driven many sex workers overseas as they can no longer earn a living here, a seminar on prostitution has been told. ``It has become a golden period for pimps and agents to take advantage of these women,'' said Surang Janyam, of the sex workers' rights group Empower. The reduced opening hours for bars and massage parlours, in particular, had cut deeply into night workers' incomes. Cabinet recently ordered pubs, discos and karaoke bars to close at 1pm, one hour earlier. Massage parlours cannot open until 4pm, four hours later than previously. Many sex workers had no choice but to go into debt with agents who find them work overseas. The debt ranged from 400,000 baht to several million baht depending on the country, and they could not return or leave until it was repaid. ``For example, women working in Hong Kong must have sex with 200 clients within two weeks to pay back around 400,000 baht to their agent,'' Ms Surang told the seminar, which took place in Phitsanulok yesterday. --The Post 2004-04-04 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Must be a queue at the door ! that would equate to over 500 customers in the 14 day period ned, only a minor deviation. Skipping them math classes beggining to catch up with you? perhaps you'd like to share the calculations you used to derive this figure, as im sure it will turn out that your right.
