Got Tickets, Will Be For Loy Kratong

Featured Replies

what it says; for us, loy kratong was the day he wished he could marry me and i wished for a harmonious and loving life with a wonderful man....

ladies, its worth loy kratonging :o ... it seemed to work better then internet dating for sure... too bad we dont have something like this in israel: moonlight, candles, flowing water, romantic story bla bla bla... and flowers of course

so we want to marry on that day; of course a lot depends on the paper work being completed etc and on MIL (seems wierd to say since i have an ex MIL here also) deciding on auspicious day...

my friends here have went out and bought a pre wedding present of shirts/pants/shoes so he looks suitably smart for coming back to village ... not a formal set but casual comfortable ... and he's ordered a thai traditional man's getup for him for the big day....

the dates of flight: 31/10-21/11.... for 21 days loy kratong falls on 5th of november from what i saw on all calendars in internet.... hope i checked it correctly cause cant change now...

my eldest daughter might join us; she's searching for those 'young backpacker' type flights; plus permission from the army to leave the country for short vacation...

now in a rush to beat the jewish holidays here and complete all my paperwork in between offices on vacation;

soooooooooo exciting.......

life should always be like this, exciting, fun, happy, even when the bad stuff happens the good stuff makes it worth it ....

Congratulations ! I think i am right in saying that your wedding day falls within the 12th month according to the Thai calendar, which would be auspicious for you.

Go and see a monk at the local temple when you are here, I am sure he will give his blessing for your happy future :D

why would the 12th month be more auspicious???

what makes an auspicious day actually?

dont worry, anon has already informed me that i will be 'bpai wat' with his sister and mother many mornings.......fine by me...

Generally, even numbers are good. But Thais are pragmatic: our wedding was in December (so that my son could attend). That is the 1st month, which is bad, but when the monks understood the reason, they said it is fine, as in western calendar it is 12th month and I am a farang, so very auspicious !!

Apart from that the monks can use your date of birth to determine a good day, but I don't know what the formula is....

our birthdays are a week apart in december also!!!!!

that also boded well for us as a couple ... i would like to think...

anon doesnt quite believe in that stuff; too much time as monk, although he does believe in ghosts et al...

Should be a good one. Our (my wife and mine's) birthday are in December 4 days apart and our Wedding also in December (19th at 09:09 - auspicious day and time, reception at 19:09) within days of our birthdays. 10 years and still together. :o

At least at Loy Krathong you can be guaranteed there will be fireworks. :D

Capricorns are normally not a good combination, too hard headed, but we found the middle ground.

Want to get married on Loy Krathong ? .... whatever floats your boat (sorry, I can't find a groaning smiley)

edit> groaning for my poor attempt at humour, not the idea, which I agree is romatic !

dont know if actually will marry on loy kratong as mom has to decide;

btw, for those that believe in the stuff, we are both saggitarius (as are both my parents!) but it actually goes by the year that u are born, year of the dog etc...

well, back to getting paper work together.....

It also depends on the day of the week you were born. Check out a perpetual calendar to find out for sure.

My husband and I were both born on Thursday, according to him, it is very unusual for two people born on the same day to be married to each other. Perhaps why we are compatible :o

Also, I have a very sweet Loy Krathong story of my own. A few years ago we had some Krathongs and went to Loy in the ocean in front of our house. We walked out together until it got a bit deeper and pushed our krathongs out. They floated together, candles lit, until out of sight. He said that showed that we were meant to be together. Very romantic indeed. :D

Keep us informed and good luck!

Nice story sbk, and thanks for that useful link - strange but I didn't know what day of the week I was born until now. :D

And bina, usually the two of you (and perhaps mom) go to see a monk. He will ask a few questions and will give you the day and time that would be most auspicious for you. At least that's what happened with us.

Our Kratongs did that too SBK on our first year together, sent off from Bang Rak beach :o

he was born (if i got the year correct) on a friday, i , on a thursday

of course i also have my birthdate by jewish (lunar) calendar and when people get married here, we have tocheck and make sure there's no fast days, or holidays that are like saturdays, and then there's a month long period that u cant get married with one day in the middle that u can....

now i need to know the date (tywai cant wait for us to be with mom) because the 'general' (my daughter) is coming for two weeks (thats all the release she could get from her pre army thingy) and now my best friend might be spontaneous and try for a last minute flight deal that might fall on the date... she's morroccan/jewish but doesnt eat kosher anymore, is great fun, and willing to try new experiences, grew up in poor poor family so cold water showers and lots of people sleeping in same room arent strange to her... i hope she can arrive also, it would be amazing... )

sbk, same here, our kratongs 'kissed' and one caught the other one slightly on fire so they kind of glued themselves together (made of styrofoam, in our duck pond)....

btw, thanx to a 'friend' thats more like the CNN, the whole kibbutz has informed me that i have a thai boyfriend (ts rather like coming out of the closet), but since the 'friend' put it all in a positive light, the public opinion of the kibbutz seems to be positive i.e. on my side... and my ex seems to be under the calming and rational influence of his girlfriend of 4 yrs... so far so good

do u all think i could get a hollywood (or bollywood) movie made, it would keep me in the black from all the royalties etc??? there have been movies made from stupider stories :o

we could call it: high thaim, or good thaims bad thaims.....
