BANGKOK: -- Police are carefully looking into the killing of night-entertainment tycoon Somyot Suthangkool, as emerging evidence suggests that the mastermind might be part of an influential network.

The suspected gunman has told police that a drug suspect had taken out a contract on Somyot because he failed to quash a lawsuit despite being paid millions of baht.

The gunman had been procured by former prison guard Chom Chainarong, who re-enacted his crime yesterday under the supervision of deputy national police chief Pol Lt-General Ruangsak Jaritake.

Ruangsak has instructed police to ensure the safety of all suspects in custody. "They are key to efforts to bring down all culprits," he said.

Yes, it will pay handsomely to "carefully" look into a can of worms.....................

Provided you look "carefully" with eyes tightly closed.

"suggests", "might", very vague and carefully chosen words. Gee, the guy who has money to assassinate people and pay lawyers to get him off a drugs rap "might" be part of an influential network. What an imaginative leap, to make.

Isn't it influential networks here that run the circus?

What exactly is an "influential network"? Businessmen? Politicians? Military? Police? Combinations of all of them?

obviously influential since they know what crime he committed and was trying to bribe his way out of yet still refuse to name him.

I am sure he is long gone by this point.

I would not be surprised to see some people getting disappeared over this one.

Let's see if they will ever catch him and name him (as they have already named many other low level people involved), he sounds like a big player. My guess is they won't get him and all will be forgotten sooner rather than later.

when I first read the headline I thought for a brief moment that the Chief of Police had been moved to a very inactive post....

Yes, carefully. Because if it an influential guy behind it, they has to back out.

Lots of very rich people who have all done bad things.

Maybe somebody can smell the honey they might get to give up on certain lines of enquiry if they start them ...

The re-enactment of the guard 'procuring' a gunman must have been riveting:

"This is him. 10 now and 10 when you've done it".

"OK".

No doubt all the police had shoes polished and chests puffed for the cameras.

You need lots of money to be influential...

So in Thai speak the guy with the most money wins...

Surprised he's still breathing.

What exactly is an "influential network"? Businessmen? Politicians? Military? Police? Combinations of all of them?

The last one.
