Gen Prayut invokes Section 44 to strip Thaksin of his police rank

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha, acting in his capacity as the head of the National Council for Peace and Order, invoked Section 44 of the interim constitution to strip former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra of his police lieutenant colonel’s rank effective as of Sunday September 6.

Governor's mother dies

BANGKOK: -- MOM DUSDI Paribatra Na Ayudhya, the mother of Bangkok Governor Mom Rajawongse Sukhumbhand Paribatra, died early yesterday morning at age 91.

She was pronounced dead as a result of old age at Siriraj Hospital at about 3am.

Mom Dusdi, whose previous last name was Na Thalang, was born in Phuket to Luang Isaresraksa (Pleum Na Thalang) and Darun Isaresraksa.

After completing high school at Bangkok's Mater Dei School, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree and a diploma in education from Chulalongkorn University - both with honours.

She received a scholarship from the Teachers' Council of Thailand to pursue further education in the US, where she got a Master's degree in child development and a related diploma.

She was married to the late Prince Sukhumbhinanda. Their other son is Mom Rajawongse Varoros Paribatra.

Mom Dusadi was a writer, a teacher (at Mater Dei School), a translator and a composer of children's songs, as well as director of an early childhood development centre. She initiated a campaign to use picture books when educating children and also wrote an early childhood teacher's handbook and many children's books that featured rhymes and beautiful illustrations to stimulate the imagination and learning.

Her funeral Abhidhamma prayer will be held for two weeks starting today at Wat Makut Kasattiyaram in Bangkok's Phra Nakhon district.

Oil prices to go up today

BANGKOK: -- Prices of all fuel oils will go up 60 satang today, except E85 and diesel 40 satang.

PTT Plc and Bangchak Petroleum announced today that prices of benzene and gasohol will be increased by 60 satang, effective by 5 am Sunday.

New prices of all fuel oils will be as followed:

Benzene 95 – 33.26 baht, Gasohol 95 – 26.70 baht, Gasohol 91 – 25.88 baht, E 20 – 24.48 baht, E 85 – 22.18 baht and Diesel – 23.29 baht.
