ED-Visa Overstay

Hi all, I am approaching the end of my first year learning Thai at a school and my final extension will expire 24 September, however I got my dates confused and booked a flight out on 29 September. I am aware that there is a 500 baht per day penalty for overstaying, which is not a problem, it’s actually cheaper than changing the date of the ticket. My question is this: will it just be a case of paying the fine at the airport or will there be more serious consequences? Thanks in advance.
