Hi all, I did some research. Only know of suranat studio which does high quality leather bags at a reasonable price.

Anyone know of other shops or malls preferably near the old city quarters which make/sell full grain leather bags?preferably veg Tan. Thank you

The Leather Shop on Sri Donchai Rd, south side of the street about four blocks east of the moat intersection.

Does beautiful work, has bags on hand or will make to your specifications.

I'll bet he does! Latigo, English Bridle Leather, plain Veg-tanned cowhide shoulders... full grain and splits.... you name it, he's got it. I've bought a LOT of leather and tools from him over the years, and he's given me some great instruction on working with it. He's also made 4-5 different items for me, following my specs. His wife's hand stitching looks like machine work!

Hi, Folk guitar, thanks for your reply. Do you have his contact or photos or the bags he has done for you before? Thanks! Wonder if he can do something like,E this.. http://www.coach.com/coach-mens-leather-business-bags-metropolitan-brief-in-sport-calf-leather/71732.html?cgid=men-bags-briefcases&dwvar_color=QB%2FSD but with more depth..., and veg Tan leather?

Sorry, I have no photos, but I will say that if you bring him the photo of this bag, tell him the size and leather you want, he CAN make it for you easily.

Keep in mind that from the looks of this bag, it may have been made with chrome-tanned leather, much more supple than vegetable-tanned leather. Is there a specific reason you want veg-tanned leather. I'm sure he could put it together with vegetable-tanned leather, but to get the same soft texture he'd need to use a much thinner hide. In any event, he will show you a choice of leathers and you can pick which you'd prefer. Both he and his wife speak English, so communication isn't a problem while you work out the details.

EDIT: I have no contact numbers for him. I live in town so I usually just stop in. I had a business card from him once, but that was long, long ago.

Folk Guitar is correct. The place is called Dawood Leather Craft 44 Sridorchai Rd. Te: 081-882-3709 or 081 993-8682.

But just go in. he ain't got time to talk on the stinkin' phone. Good people, excellent handcraft, very fair prices.

Three out of the four would pose no problem at all for him.

No.2 has a LOT of zippers and pouches attached and would be more difficult, but he could do it. It would just cost you more.

None are 'difficult' to make.

EDIT: There is absolutely NO viable reason why bag #3 should cost almost $700 other than snob appeal. Even using the very best Wicket and Craig leather, there isn't $150 worth of leather in the bag, and as it's machine-stitched, is quick to assemble. I'll bet our Chiang Mai leather worker will not charge you more than 8,000 baht to make.

Wow, thank you for the quick reply guitar! Is his skill level able to finish such in 5 Days? As I would be staying there for a week only. what would be a good estimate of the price if the item cost abt usd 500 at the moment. Does he have similar ready made bags already at the shop for sale? Thanks!

Then again, surely Dawood doesn't use wickets n Craig leather right? By any chance does he use horween leather?

I haven't been inside his shop in the last 6 months so couldn't really say what he has in stock.

I also don't know from whom he purchases his leathers, but I've bought some from him that were the same quality as I've bought from Wickets & Craig. I know for certain that he doesn't have any Horween leather. I've bought Horween shell Cordavan horsehide (for making Razor Strops. Still have a few for sale... :) ) directly from Horween's agent in Tokyo, but doubt they have a sales rep in Thailand.

Hi, all.. Thank you so much for the replies so far. Would like to know if there are any other reputable leather bag makers w reasonable pricing besides dawood? And their shop locations? I have read about 1) the bag shop and suchada at nimanhaemin soi 5, 2) chok pra than and chiang mai leather at Chang khan, 3) deepred and sompom shop also.

And anyone know where would be a good place to make tailor suits and spectacles? Thanks
