I would like General Prayut explain why he is NOT a dictator and why Thailand should become a member of the Security Council.

Personally I will be counting the number of times he mentions "sustaining."

You've about as much chance on point one as Surapong or Yingluck ever answering the Ombudsman or explaining why they lied so much and so often.

The UN isn't the most normal of places and some members of the SC aren't democratic or remotely interested in it. For a little player like Thailand all will depend on who wants their vote and is prepared to be their patron. And how much the others want to stop that patronage from gaining too much influence.

Add the issue of the South to be explain at the UN. Bet he has no clue what's happening and really has no solution.

Silly comment. He probably has far more clue than Yingluck or any of her cabinet who were all scared shitless to go there.

As Prime Minister and Defense Minister exactly how many times during her tenure did the much traveled PM visit the South? Getting a diplomatic passport deal with Montenegro seemed much more a priority for her. Still, her brother is a citizen there.

So she entrusted talks to a drunken thug who promised all would be sorted in 90 days, and like all his other promises nothing happened.

BB no need for degratory words. Just state the retort in a civilize way. Now back to post, you like to tell me how many times the dear leader has visited the south? Zelch to date. The last time that he attempted to visit, he cancelled quoting that he was worried for his safety. That was in Feb 2014. Since then, he never mentioned or make any attempt to visit. He worried just like he was worried to be at the Erawan shrine gathering. Oh, Yingluck, she visited thrice. And by the way, the junta is using the same negotiation method that was introduced by the previous government. Didn't dear leader promised peace in the south within a year. Anything that you know happen?? Or you rather spin.

...and anyone challenging him in public will be quietly invited to a private "attitude adjustment" in his penthouse hotel suite.

This is not a statement of fact, it is simple sarcasm...a little levity, humor, tension relief.

Yes, you are probably correct, just like the previous governments ?.

"People at such international forums would like to hear explanations in regard to human rights violations, human trafficking, and child labour " Surapong said.

~ Yes, people at previous international forums probably would have also liked to hear explanations with regards to human rights violations, human trafficking, and child labour. I wonder what explanations they were given.

i await the moment when Prayut will explain just how the dissenters are playing BLACK MAGIC on him....of course the U.N. assembly will understand; they have been known to use their own brand of Black Magic....or, how about those folks over at IPCC who were busted for cooking the MMGW books?

BB can't help himself and will LOVE these words from the 'attitude adjustment' team from his beloved Junta:

"As for calls for us to respect human rights, we maintain all NCPO orders, announcements and directives are laws. Whoever doesn't comply with the laws will have to be dealt with. This is the same in every country. It has nothing to do with rights. We have never abused our authority beyond the legal framework."

Sometimes people only learn from making their own mistakes !!! In the case of Obama and the US government , some people never learn despite the enormity of their mistakes .

Writing and rewriting the Thai charter does give the impression of impending democratic elections . The failure of the charter can be blamed on other people , while putting off for a lengthy period the risk of holding a general election . The military junta still has much work to do to reform Thailand , to brainwash Thais of any thought of Thaksin , to imprison too vocal opposition MPs for lese majeste , if necessary , invoking section 44 .

to brainwash Thais of any thought of Thaksin

better: to remove the massive brainwashing from Thaksin and his accomplices

Prayut knows his days are numbered. He is going to the UN for a number of days to facilitate the counter-coup. He will be permitted to retire gracefully and in great wealth and with no loss of status while other more adept military figures take over the reins.

I wouldn't be surprised of he's even listened to....no-one likes to deal with military regiems......and certainly won't believe much of what he says!

There are quite a few military regimes and dictatorships at the UN.

Syria, Zimbabwe, Nigeria to name several, not to mention many Arab Gulf states.

The UN's Charter calls for it to " take action on the issues confronting humanity in the 21st century, such as peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, human rights, disarmament, terrorism, humanitarian emergencies, and more."

It has failed miserably, to achieve what it set out to do, despite its resources. There's really no news, to the news that yet another Thai PM was going to grace its assembly. Agreed, the trading game for a seat on the security council is a worthy exception to this.
