We just got a call from Thai Immigration that at Ban Laem and Ban Pakard border check point the Thai Immigration will allow travelers to stamp in/out only if you have valid visa. People with valid Multiple Entry Thai Visa have no problem, it is OK to activate your second or third entry of a Tourist Visa or a valid Multiple Entry Non Immigrant Visa.

I can not confirm situation at Aranyaprathet or the border at Kanchanaburi.

Mean they will not stamp any people doing visa exempt stamp!

Good night Thailand, digging our own grave:-(

It was like that for many years. Only since they have done away with the 30day visa. Has the economy tilted. While most other Asian countries require no visa. Thailand cracks down. They certainly won't have to wprry about any terrorist attack now

Bravo!....I would expect them to shoot themselves on the foot100% of the time

and I have never been disappointed....lol

Shooting themselves in the foot by getting foreigners staying here to get actual visas?

Retirement, work, volunteering, study, tourist, marriage, family....

People oddly think that they have some sort of birthright to rock on up, no visa, and stay as long as they want.

Good on them for this crackdown. :)

No real reason for visas anymore. Not with the Computers

and high speed connections they have now days. Facial recognition and cameras everywhere. The Chinese that stole that diamond ? can tell you how well that works. They stole it and bolted to the airport. And got caught.

Not sure what one has to do with the other. Whether you have visa stickers or not doesn't obviate the need to control who has permission to enter the country and for what purpose, which is the point of having people apply for a visa.

Not sure what you mean by the "do not trust" comment ..............

There are countries who have now implemented "sticker free" visas and the process is indeed electronic !

As I understand the comment by Suradit, having a visa sticker does not mean anything. So has to be checked.

Having people spend money from their home countries in the Thai economy is good for Thailand, and promising 15/30 days visa free visits and then turning people back at the border is the opposite of goodwill. I didn't see anyone talking about birthright or demanding unlimited stays. How do you benefit from this crackdown? How would Thailand benefit from the money being spent in other countries?

Entries by "visa exemption" are extendable by 30 days at an immigration office. If it is intended that longer than 45/60 days are required for a "holiday" then an appropriate visa should be obtained in advance of arrival.

That's not new, and in no way answers to my questions.

The Philippines had security and terrorism issues for years yet it has a very efficient and friendly visa procedure, Thai visas has become a nightmare and it caused extremely negative impact on the economy.

Whilst I do not have the figures handy the vast majority of visitors to Thailand arrive by air and seek their first "visa" exempt entry at an airport not a land border.

Vietnam and Indonesia waived visa on arrival fees this year and offer 30 days to many nationalities in order to stimulate their economies, i ve done many visa runs between Sing-indo and cambo-viet and never been questioned !!! all ASEAN countries are opening up except Thailand

If there is more choice perhaps there will be fewer complaints here !

I witnessed an event in a Caribbean island nation when it started to restrict its visa access to backpackers and it caused a massive damage to its local economy as once the financial resources started to dwindle the local cops started to harass its long term retirees and residents with more taxes and fees, crimes became rampant and those who used to scam tourists turned all against the long term residents and started to break into their properties and at the end they had to flee the island because a drug cartel took the place of the tourism industry as the local employer and kicked all foreigners from the island.

I wonder why some TVs are happy to see some visa runners get out of Thailand ??

few years ago they were a Thai visa run company who took border runners to Siem riep and over there a specialized agent took care of all the visa applications and brought the visa from PP on the next working day the process was very speedy than things got complicated and those tour companies moved to laos.
