Comic apologizes for lying about 9-11 escape

NEW YORK (AP) — Comedian Steve Rannazzisi, who is scheduled to have a stand-up special on Comedy Central this weekend, says he lied about working in New York City's World Trade Center when terrorists attacked on Sept. 11, 2001.

Rannazzisi said he didn't know why he told the story, which he called "a mistake that I deeply regret and for which apologies may still not be enough."

Comedy Central said it just learned about the falsehood this week and is determining whether to move forward with Saturday's special, called "Breaking Dad." Rannazzisi appears in an FXX series "The League."

His falsehood was first reported Wednesday in The New York Times.

Well methinks most of us who are over the age of 6 knows why we lie. The impulse to do so resides in everyone of us. How we as individuals come to make a choice between truth or fabrication reveals not only what we think of others, but how we think about ourselves. It seems to be natural that we want to increase our esteem in the eyes of others but there is another segment who want to increase their esteem with themselves. This is the kind of liar that seemingly believes his own BS. Therein lies the difference between the common practice and delusion.

'Had never heard of Rannazzisi, but did he out himself, or is he apologizing now only because he was caught? As I understand it, he came clean only after learning the NYT was about to expose the lie, which he'd been repeating for years. But no idea if that's the whole truth or not.

A comic is a story teller. It's goes with the job description to make up funny stories. He obviously just lost track of the line between reality and fantasy and when to be in one or the other modality. No need to demonize this one......
