PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times) – Nearly a month after the deadly bombing at Erawan Shrine in Bangkok, Cambodia’s military police spokesman Eng Hy said police have increased security at potential terrorist targets in Phnom Penh, such as Aeon Mall, aiming to prevent a similar tragedy in Cambodia.

The increased security includes stricter monitoring of the borders, as well as a stronger police presence around the city.

One impact of increased security measures is that Cambodia, once a major stop on Uighurs’ escape route from China to Turkey, will likely no longer be an option for those seeking flee from religious and ethnic persecution in their homeland, analysts said.
