Can anyone tell me how things work at a short time hotel (the ones with the curtains). Is there a reception you need to go to or do you drive straight through a curtain and they come to you? How do you know where the better rooms are? are they clean? do you expect any English to be spoken? (if not are there any useful phrases to use)

Just to be clear I'm not planning on cheating on my wife, she was the one who brought it up. It's just sometimes a bit awkward at home with the in-laws living in the same house and although staying overnight in hotels is good, it doesn't always give that extra feeling of excitement.

Jesus? Are you serious?

Go to Google Earth street view & take a walk down a few side sois off Walking Street.

Curtains??????????

Drive Thru???????

EDIT: You're thinking the hotels supply the women????

WRONG.

That'd be a Malaysian massage parlor or a Thai soapy as far as that goes.......

$20 -30 USD bucks (or less) will get you a cheap room all over Pattaya.

Drive thru. I've heard it all now.

Barely enough room to change your mind in Pattaya much less a flippin drive thru ST joint.

I don't live in Pattaya, my town is more local. The places we have here are for you to take your mia noi or whoever you pulled in the local club that night to. The curtain is to hide your car so prying eyes cant see who's there. There are loads of these places around my area. I've tried to take a screenshot from google to show you what they look like but the entrances are well concealed for the reason of privacy to the customer.

They do exist, yes they have curtains. Yes you drive in and out.

Who said anything about the hotel supplying the women, or Pattaya...

I've been to one, there was a desk in the corner of the car park with a couple guys, one comes up to you as you pull in with your car, if I recall.

If you poke your head out the curtain and catch one of the guy's eye they come over with anything you need, condoms, water, etc.

I can't 100% recall if there was a reception, don't think so though.

The room was pretty unromantic, not terrible though. No top sheet on the bed.

Not sure where good rooms are, if they exist

I guess I stand corrected.

Thought had seen it all, but TIT.

Sounds about 100X seedier than Pattaya Soi 6 though, where odds are you'll wind up w/ a Katoey 9 times out of 10 if you went in there blind.

Guess I'm (finally) out of a league that I finally do not care to venture into in Thailand.

Thanks. I've heard some of them can be nice inside, with saunas flat screen TV etc but its not something I would ask the locals about.

You take your own lady there. It's just a room with a parking space behind a curtain. But I'm not sure how to go about getting the nicer rooms

You take a girl there...

15 years in Thailand & never heard of Curtain hotels.

Ain't calling ya'll liars at all. Anything is possible & sounds like par for the course I reckon.

I guess I'm the Dummy.

They're for Thais that don't want to be caught with their mia nois, they just drive in and an assistant rushes over to close the curtain for you, discreetly collects the cash from the door behind the curtain, no ID checks, no reception, etc.

I once took my ex-GF to one of these hotels.

And I also took a tripod and video camera.

Shocking. Absolutely shocking.

I think they are generally called Motels rather than Hotels and they tend to be off the main roads, out of clear sight, mostly catering to those in need of clandestine, extra-marital horizontal folk dancing. Take your own lady (or gent) for short time or all night. Can be very nice, with room service for beer & Thai food and may well have a mirror on the ceiling. Went to one for a one night stay in Bangkok with my Thai GF who made the mistake of thinking it was a normal hotel - till she saw the ceiling mirror. About 700 Baht for one night. Have seen 2 of these Motels not far off the Pattaya / Naklua Road in Pattaya. One was used for normal hotel trade in busy periods, but has now been revamped to permanent hotel only. I think they are pretty common in any town or city in Thailand, but may go unnoticed by many non-Thais. Patrons are mostly Thai men & their partner of choice for the occasion. Reception was a desk just beyond the entrance, payment up front.

I occasionally go to these hotels ( lots in Bangkok ) with my wife just to use the hot tub. Normally as you drive in one of the employees ushers you into a parking space and closes the curtains behind you. He shows you your room which is either in front of or above your car. You pay him and he will take any drink or food order you have. No passport needed.

Costs a couple of hundred baht for a couple of hours. The swanky ones with a jacuzzi can cost up to 800 baht. They often have a few porn channels on the tv and more often than not some kind of spidery love chair. Wife refuses to try the chair but enjoys the hot bubble bathbiggrin.png

No better way to get local knowledge........................wink.png

Oh, and before you start thinking that you would keep it a secret if you didn't ask a local, please forget about that right now.........................thumbsup.gif

This is a pretty good description of what's on offer.

I've found some of these motels to be very pleasant places, complete with in-house "movies", great service, considerate "mirror work", and clean bathrooms.

Fees, in my experience, ranged from 250 Baht p/h to about 500 Baht p/h.

And no smutty glances, either, when you walk in with your tripod and camera gear. Staff are cool. They know what's going on.
