Dear members,

yesterday my wife got notification from school, that immigration no longer provide extension of educational visas ( language schools) and now they will be only valid for 6 mouths only.

What she should do now? Maybe to apply for dependent visa? as my wife, Idk if she has that right? Can she apply in Laos or this kind of visa needs to be done in country of her origin?

I would like to hear any kind of opinion or advice,

much appreciated,

regards

I think you should give more information:

What kind of visa you are on, what nationality you are and what nationality your wife is. Stuff like that.

Forget that! There is NO VISA called "Dependent-VISA"!! What you are looking for, is an extension of stay based on dependent, I guess!!

It seems to be misunderstanding with what the school said. Immigration still doed the extension of stay for attending a language school but they will only be for 90 days at a time. The 6 months would be for a 200 hour course of study. I order to get a total of stay of one year it requires 400 hours now.

If you are on an extension of stay yout spouse can get an extension equal to yours as your dependent. She should be able to get the extension of her ED visa entry without needing to go out for a non-o visa but that will depend upon the immigration office where it is applied for.

Unless your spouse if from one the countries shown here she could get the non-o in Vientiane. http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/upload/pdf/RestrictedCountries2013.pdf

Hello, yes i agree with you that 400 h is for 1 year edu visa, except that in Chiang Mai in last 3 year you could buy 200h thai language course and stay one year.

( Actually it is 180h, and they barely keep promises to keep it until end-very famous and respected school at Nimman)

Buying 400 h is expensive and my wife doent have time to spend so much apart of our 2 years daughter, and skipping classes or not going it is not good option, We dont feel comfortable doing it!

But I saw at immigration laws, rules, that this kind of dependent visa exist. what should we do?

For an accurate response you should inform members on what basis you are staying in Thailand. (There is no "working visa")

Did/do you have a none "B" visa?

Have you got an extension of stay?

What nationality is your wife?

Answering these three points will assist in providing the information you seek.

Russia, I dont understand why is this important? Isnt it every nationality regarded equally?

Yes, now I checked it is writed non B ( in laos) and then after 3 mouths I went to immigration and with documents provided from my employer I extended for one year, then I need to go every 3 mouths to report stay ( adress) Is that extantion?

Why is nationality important? I am confuse, she is same as me, russia, but even if she is Ukranian, English, USA, Chinese it shold be a same process?? isnt it?

It is important because the citizens of many countries can only obtain visa in their country of origin.

I think only Nigerians and North Koreans are not aloud to apply for visa in Laos,

I obtained visa in Laos, I didnt have any problem.

But what sort of visa needs to be obtain in their home country? many countries in Europe dont have thai embassies or consulates, how these people menage to obtain visas? and also a lot of foreigners go to Laos, so now I am confuse!!! A lot!

There is no "dependent" visa!

There is a long list of countries whose citizens cannot obtain visas other than in their own country.

Your wife needs to obtain an "O" visa from a nearby country. She will need her marriage certificate (In English or Thai) and copies of your passport data page, visa and extension of stay.

Once she has the visa she can apply for an extension of stay as your dependent.

You both will need to attend the immigration office to get this.

You have a lot to learn about how the de facto visa situation works in Thailand or elsewhere for that matter.

It is true that some nationalities must obtain thai visa from a specific consulate (usually one in their country or the closest one). But some nationalities that may technically obtain a visa at other consulates may be asked for additional paperwork, fees, or refused. Then on top of that, each Thai consulate can determine which type of visa they will issue, and may require additional paperwork.

This, along with other rules is why pinned topics like this exist. Being stubborn about providing basic visa information that you would have to provide to the consulate/immigration anyway (nationality of passport, reason for visa, supporting docs, etc) is only hurting you; how do you expect other forum members to help you without full disclosure?

I'm not saying that you cannot apply for visa in Laos. But you need to be aware that each consulate can differ in how they apply visa issuance rules.

Please yourself.

If you "know" a dependent visa is available then apply for it.

The list of countries is in the link below --------sorry the last link I provided was in error.

This list is applicable to most(if not all) Thai embassy's/consulates in the region.

I do not believe your country is on the list.

As said, there is no dependant visa.

She needs a Non Imm O Visa to start and then after 60 days she can apply for a 12 Month Extension of Stay as your dependant.

She can apply for the extension in Chiang Mai.

A dependent extension can be applied for at an immigration office.

For a visa at an embassy it would be non immigrant O visa based upon being a family member of a person living here.

Thank you very much, as I wrote before pretty much 3rd world countries are on that list ( except China, but I consider it still something between 3rd world and developed )

I am shocked that Thai embassy dont aloud to Palestinian, Syrian, Libyan, Afghanistan, South Sudan to apply abroad !
