RANONG, 21 September 2015, (NNT) - Ranong administrative office on Sunday held talks on the rights and roles of foreign workers in the province.

The move is in line with the government's policy to systematically reorganize foreign workforce and suppress human trafficking. It is also to organize living quarters of these workers. Officials have also set aside residential zones in Bang Rin and Pak Nam sub-districts in Mueang Ranong for workers from Myanmar in Ranong.

The province has also set up a working committee tasked with managing, developing, and taking care of the both local and foreign workers.

Khon Kaen Zoo welcomes newest orangutan with banquet for primates

BANGKOK, 21 September 2015 (NNT) – Khon Kaen Zoo has welcomed its newest orangutan with a wrist-binding ceremony and a banquet.

The wrist-binding ceremony was held during a reception for "Ms. Nemo", a 4-year-old female orangutan that was recently transferred from Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo. Wrist-binding is a northeastern ceremony held in keeping with the belief that it strengthens one's spirits. The ceremony drew considerable interest from visitors to the zoo, who also observed the Zoo's first-ever banquet for primates.

Khon Kaen Zoo officials said the banquet for primates was intended to lift the spirits of the animals, and was also meant as a thank-you to them. Officials also hoped that the activities would create enough of an impression on visitors to draw them back for another visit.

OIE backs Indian market penetration

BANGKOK, 21 September 2015, (NNT) - The Office of Industrial Economics (OIE) is in support of Indian market penetration, saying the nation has a great investment potential.

According to the OIE Deputy Director-General Siriruj Chulakaratana, Thai investors should do well in India's plastic beads, chemical products, latex, electrical appliances, electronics, auto and auto parts markets, given that India has a great number of manufacturers in automobile, information technology and construction industries, all of which need materials that Thai investors can provide.

The OIE suggested that Thai business operators focus on electronic parts and auto parts, recommending forming partnerships with their Indian counterparts as the most viable approach. Export from Thailand to India was valued at 5.6 billion baht last year.

The office is also of the view that India would become the world's third largest economy by the year 2028 thanks to its population and solid industrial support policy.
