I have a 3 m move dish and have always wondered why there doesn't/didn't seem anyway to receive iptv channels on the satellite receiver.

I don't use the dish anymore as I have CAT wifi and ilikhdtv, all which is great.

I just don't trust CAT, TOT, or any other government service provider, cause in the long run it all seems to go to crap.

So I would love to be able to use my satellite TV and box to get my iptv channels and not have to worry when CAT is going to have their service oversubscribed and my iptv keep dropping out.

I realise it's internet protocol TV, but it's just a data stream that could be sent to a satellite decoder/receiver.

Just recently looked on the interernet and found this satellite rx.

Dreamlink T6 HD Satellite Receiver + XBMC / KODI + IPTV w/DL-300

Seems like I could use my satellite dish and rx (providing I can see the satellite) and watch iptv.

Is anyone doing this?

I don't think there is anyone offering IPTV over satellite at a consumer mass market cost level yet.

its technically possible to listen in on internet data that's sent over the satellite link with the right receiver and specialised software

I did it myself in 1999-2000 with a Nokia Mediamaster 9600 flashed with DVB2000 firmware and a SCSI link to computer but its a one way link you have no way to request data.

DVB2000 author ( if I remember correctly ) later went onto produce the Dreambox receiver.

Looks to me like that box would be using IPTV from the internet via LAN or WiFi not via satellite but could of course be wrong.

I see the problems now, there is only a one way link, as you say, can't handshake or request data.

But the normal satellite receivers are only one way devices.

Also, no providers.

So the main reason is that there are no providers?

Yes the main problem is there are no providers.

You could have a two way satellite link but its just not economically viable for most ( normal people) only affordable for big companies.

Another way is to have feedback via a modem and that does work there where a couple of providers of Satellite internet in Europe ( don't know if they still exist) and there is still the option of satellite internet in Thailand but its costly I believe they bill you per data usage a bit like mobile phone companies.

So a bit of chicken and egg situation there are no receivers ( at consumer level prices ) because there are no provides because in turn there is no demand.

Got ya.

I won't worry about it any longer.

Just stick with the great service from ilikehdtv until CAT stuffs up the wifi. Think it's called, or was called 'planning'.

Just found this link.

http://www.hughesnet.com/satellite-internet (sorry can't remember how to hypalink it). Smart web page, done for me.

Comments in the thread were that it is expensive but good.

The thread was about the new proposed Great Gateway of Thailand.

I'd love to have a go at designing it, should only take a couple of days and a few thousand baht.

Bet it will work (dare say I use this word in Thailand) 'seamlessly'.

It may be time for a piece of history. I really don't know. Most of todays ( officially approved ) satellite receivers are not that open anymore as they used to be in the far away past. Nowadays received content gets protected quite heavily. Recording movies is made easy, but transferring a movie to another location is an entire different piece of cake, is not that easy anymore, especially when using most of currently available hardware. Streaming might still be an option but for how long exactly ? Especially in this respect current situation did become far more limited, became negotiable, forcing people to pay per view, as eventually may be the case with the Great Firewall of Thailand. No idea to what exactly the term "Great" is referring to here, since despite all good intentions and good will of all people involved the actual philosophy of mind and also contemporary behavioral human psychology is more and more founded upon, thus determined by, an economy of flow of money. Since the invention of money we are not so free anymore as most of us still might think. Of course I do not want to disturb those dreams. Go with the flow of exactly what ?.... lol ...
