MFA hosts seminar on TIP report

BANGKOK: -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has hosted a seminar on the TIP report and its effects over Thailand. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sundat organized a seminar on the topic of "Perspective and Impact of TIP Report and Tier 3," during which it explained the TIP report and its effects over Thailand.

According to Songsak Saicheua, director-general of the American and South Pacific Affairs Department, Thailand will continue to do its utmost to overcome the remaining challenges, while promoting security and upholding the long and distinguished tradition of adherence to humanitarianism at the same time.

Human trafficking is a complex challenge that requires cooperation and efforts from the governments and all sectors in order to achieve tangible progress and measurable results.

Even though substantial progress has been made, there are still many steps to take against human trafficking in Thailand.

In an effort to combat human trafficking, the Thai Government and related stakeholders have been working to address this significant challenge in accordance with globally accepted trafficking elimination standards.

Thai government officials will be taking bold steps to combat trafficking throughout the 2016 reporting period, said the Director-General.

A report surfaced that the reviewers were ignored before the report was doctored politically. They had recommended that China go on tier 3, and completely ignored human trafficking in the US, where wealthy celebrities and politicians routinely employ illegal migrants for housekeepers, pool boys, and gardeners-- just to avoid paying higher wages and employee taxes.

I agree there is a Thai problem, a serious one, but the unequal enforcement is suspicious to me, at best. And there is talk of an EU ban being placed, but there is so much money on the table in the EU that a ban would be a conflict of interest.

It all seems like a case of doing one thing for completely different reasons.
