BANGKOK: -- Five police officers of Bangkhen police station were on Tuesday abruptly transferred to inactive posts at the operations centre of Metropolitan Police Bureau following a raid of an illegal gambling den in Sai Mai area Monday night.

The five officers are Pol Col Natthanavit Sitthapirom, superintendent of Bangkhen police station; Pol Lt-Col Amnart Intharasuan, deputy superintendent for suppression; Pol Lt-Col Paramet Poinok, deputy superintendent for investigation; Pol Lt-Col Chupong Yosprom, investigative inspector; and Pol Maj Anant Worasart, the suppression inspector.

Pol Maj-Gen Korkiat Wongsumet, commander of the second division of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, who signed the transfer order, also appointed Pol Lt-Col Samroeng Ampanthong, an inspector to serve as the acting superintendent pending the appointment of a new replacement.

Army troops and Bangkhen police conducted the raid of a house in Soi Ploensin 20, Sai Mai district which fronts as a grocery shop to cover up an illegal gambling den inside. 17 gamblers were detained and several gambling equipments were seized.

i am not sure but the present authorities seem to be very active with their busts of late surely this cant be to the lack of not passing any funds in the so called correct direction ie up or possibly a fresh approach to the system a new twist me thinks

It amazes me still that here we have cops "axed" for being part of an illegal gambling den yet I read in a previous article how many cops were moved to inactive posts for human trafficking. So pretty much they are telling Thais and the world that having a gambling den is worse than trafficking humans and that for cops some crimes committed by them is not so bad to get "axed" whereas lesser crimes are.

The designation ' Operations Centre ' might suggest a hive of activity but seems to be used as the dumping ground for those transferred to an inactive post.

If the office is chock a block with inactive post holders who then is operating the Ops Centre ?

Normal people go for crimes in prison. Rich people do not go in prison for crimes, they pay.

And policemen go for crimes to inactive posts.

There's a notorious cop here on Phuket who, for many years, had been, it is rumored, collecting 3 million per month from his personal gambling den. This, among the many bribes he had been demanding to actively seek criminals/look the other way, was enough reason to have him transferred to another, less lucrative province. He's now back on the island. Anyone expecting anything ever to be done about the RTP under all and any administration, legit or otherwise here, is living in fantasy land.

but in that case it's the army who conducted the raid so they were found inside ....probably

Wow, am I ting tong. When I saw that Thai police were "axed" I assumed that meant they were fired ... that's what it means in English. But, when I read the article I see they were merely transferred .... of course.

If the Police were really serious about controlling illegal gambling, there would be a hot-line or anonymous call in service to report where these gambling dens are located. Slot machines, betting centers, casinos would in no time be exposed or made to operate under extreme conditions it no longer is worth doing.

But, we also need to know who benefits from these illegal activities to know whether such a strategy would work or not. win k win k.

Many years ago when I was living in Thonburi, I was surprised when I saw two persons on a motorbike at our soi who wore shiny black shoes and etc. - the pillion rider had a coin counting machine on his lap. Wonder what that was for?
