webfact Posted September 22, 2015 Share Posted September 22, 2015 Suspected Hotel cheater arrested by Pattaya PolicePATTAYA: -- Pattaya Police arrested a 25 year old man at a Hotel in Central Pattaya on Monday Evening.Khun Boramin, who had accrued a Hotel bill of over 30,000 Baht since he checked in on 19th August was arrested and taken to Pattaya Police Station after Hotel Staff attempted to clear his bill without success.He was due to check out on 31st August but decided to extend his stay indefinitely. He would eat in the Hotel restaurant every night and would sign bills and the Hotel would assign the charges to his room.Hotel staff mentioned that Khun Boramin would always act in a high-class way and would only talk English. He might have presented a card at check in which they used when attempting to "clear" his bill. If you just present a card when checking in without an advanced booking, not sure they would always do more than check the expiry date and his name against some other ID. The immature selfish concept of demanding to reap before you sow is not exactly unknown in other cultures. Over here, most of them seem to aspire to Police, military or public service but probably only because there is only a few thousand national and local political posts available but there are 150,000 police jobs available to fill and only Buddha knows how many in the military and public service controlling sectors of the state purse. Minnehaha Posted September 23, 2015 Share Posted September 23, 2015 very few hotels will let you stay without giving a credit card or paying nightly. giving a credit card used to mean they would just register the details and then be prepared to charge it when 'the time comes'. they dont want to charge it for every little thing or before you know they will because you may be upset and leave. besides, it is against the law, I believe, unless you sign the bill (authorization). So that explains why he got over extended. this is the oldest trick in the book. and works best at the highest end hotels, or at least it used to. nowadays they all have CCTV and this together with the additional security measures everywhere makes it less viable. On the other hand, with the huge amount of credit card theft in the world, if you have a supply of new cards and identities then this can be done much longer / with more frequency before they start looking for your image. Then it is time to leave town / country and do it again in a place like Cambodia or Laos where they are not as up to speed.
