Hello @ All,

I have two question where I need your help as we are inexperienced so far regarding all the visa topics here in Thailand. My wife (Hong Kong) and I (German) bought a house 5 month ago in Thailand with the aim to live in the house the on a permanent base (we are not over 50 years old) and having one son (17 month old). In March we are expecting our second baby which we want to deliver here in Thailand. The questions are:

1. What kind of visa you can recommend for us to have a permanent stay possibility (at least 3-6 month) for all of us?

2. Is there any possibility that our baby will get a Thai passport in case we decide that we want to deliver the baby here in Thailand? With the baby we want to secure our assets (house) in Thailand and want to invest further into the country e.g. Buying land and houses.

Thanks for your help here and wish you all nice weekend!

1. Assume you bought only the actual house as foreigners can not own land - I hope all is in order with that.

2. You have provided no basis for any visa stay - so a 60 day tourist visa extended for 30 days would seem normal.

3. There is no citizenship by birth for your nationalities in Thailand. Nor will it open up land ownership for you or for child.

Edit: as you seem to indicate you have assets to invest you might consider the investment option for extended stay - some new condo type properties may qualify.

There very few options available if you are not working for a Thai company or following a course of approved education.

That leaves tourist visas as being the only possibility. A double entry tourist visa will enable a stay of almost 6 months.

The new baby will not be entitled to a Thai passport

Thanks for the first feedbacks but I have heard of 2-3 cases that a baby born in Thailand (none of the parents has been a Thai) got a Thai passport, it is 5-7 years ago, that why I wonder if there is a way to get our assets secured

Believe at least one was a permanent resident. In your case child wound have not claim for Thai nationality on information provided here.

It might be possible but not solely due to being born here. There are clauses in the nationality act for a child to obtain Thai nationality due their parents status here which would be permanent residency and it has to be applied for.

You bought a house in a country without any clue how you can live in it? No offense but it sounds strange...

If your house did cost more then 10mio THB and the funds came from outside Thailand then you could apply for a Investment Visa.

A house cannot be used to get an investment extension (not a visa). Only a condo is allowed.

For the education visa, in case my wife will get one e.g. Attending a Thai language course, will our son automatically get a visa as well?

When your wife gets her ED visa at an embassy or consulate your son would have to be with her to apply for a single entry non-o visa.

Then when you wife gets her first 90 day extension based upon attending a school your son could apply for a 90 day extension as her dependent. The again after 90 days.
